We feed off the bottom feeders of the big ten.

Northwestern
Purdue
Rutgers
Maryland
Minnesota
Little debbie
Illinois
Indiana

They're all terrible programs. Illinois and Indiana is having a better years than usual, but they're still a terrible programs. Once we take on anyone better than these bottom feeders, we lose. We trade blows with Wisconsin every decade, and Iowa State is historically poverty.

Kirk never seems to be ready for these OOC opponents, let alone the best teams in the B1G. Changing the OC isn't the only fix we need.

Yeah…but we scored some points this time

Not anymore. We ain't going bowling next year. This stubborn old man is going to drive our program into the ground. The game passed him by quite some time ago. This Iowa nice crap about resting our appreciation on his past successes long ago is going to set our program way way back. He needs to be asked to retire tonight. If he says no then write the check. Future depends on it.

The real story here is that they have averaged two top 25 opponents per year. Period. Might explain being able to win 8 or even 10 games once in a while.

Get rid of Capt Fossil.

Paper tiger that is the Iowa defense. Beat up on a bunch of nobody's but can't flex their muscles against top 25 teams.

I have said for years Iowa plays a weak schedule. We rarely play top 25 teams and when we do it gets ugly. Easy to win 7-8 games a season when you have Iowa's schedule.

Not even competitive vs good teams
Getting drubbed by Oregon, USC, PennSt, Rutgers, Indiana etc etc will be fun

No more easy 12 game schedules, that's for sure.

In the past:
2: cupcake nonconference
1: Clown U
6: B1G West teams
3: B1G East teams

Yeah. That pretty well sums up the mediocrity of the last 5 years or so. If not for a series of almost embarrassingly weak schedules, KF would be far from his coveted record and Iowa football’s W-L would be awful. Those days are gone in the expanded Big Ten without the security blanket of a terrible Big Ten West. I expect many of us to be a whole lot more apathetic about Iowa football going forward..

Looking at that post, not only did we go 0-9 but looks like we also went 0-9 against the Vegas spreads. Not meeting the computer projections either.

Make that 32-1. Iowa scored 24 points vs Missouri, who won with 27 points.

Make that 78-5. Iowa led by 10 points (24-14) with 5:19 left in the 3rd Quarter.

After scoring 21 points in the 1st half, Iowa managed just 3 points in the 2nd half.

Iowas last win against a team who scored >21pts was Nov 20th 2021 against Illinois. Iowa doesn't give up >21pts often but when they do they have not been able to win the last few years.

Time to go…..this…whatever it is strategy is clearly not effective.

And all of those 75 points have not come from the offense... we got 17 today.
True, but in all fairness, all points count, even 100-yard KO returns. Good teams score points in every way possible. It's not a bad thing for the defense and special teams to put up points, but your observation is correct. Iowa's offense definitely needs to do more to put up points, but that's not the way KF plays. Instead of trying to put the game away with more points, he tries to sit on leads, which often works against Albany, UMass, and the Big Ten West. But most good teams get even more aggressive with a lead. KF always goes into his risk-averse shell. After 26 years, it's ugly and boring. Most teams play to win while KF continues playing not to lose. As the facts demonstrate, you can get away with that against weak opponents. It doesn't work so well against decent opponents.

I don't know how informative this window of introspection is ... because it also overlaps with a period when we either had a terrible offense ... or we just had QB-issues (or both). I know many don't pay heed much to moral victories ... but this years loss to Missouri wasn't terribly shameful. It certainly was frustrating ... but I think that it also was a reflection of where our defense and QB play was at this year. The loss to Michigan in '22 and the loss to Kentucky in '21 weren't that bad either. Obviously, the rest of the losses were complete dog-shit ... but it's also hard to win when your offense is that anemic.

The biggest surprise to me this year was the mediocrity of our defense. I certainly would not have expected that given the guys who returned. However, it may have been a reflection of a lack of leadership ... along with an illustration that Phil still has plenty of "building" that yet needs to be done in the secondary.
