Neither #12 ranked Arizona St nor #9 ranked Boise St should have received a 1st Round CFP Bye. Should 3 Loss, #11 ranked Alabama have gotten in?

Would have rather seen Miami or Illinois get in.
They would've lost too. This is what happens with 12 teams . There's a few legitimate contenders every year, maybe one or two outside the four teams. But after that they don't really have much of a chance

By expanding the 12 teams we've done away with that what about team number five or six kind of argument. But realistically out of the teams that are left Isee Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Penn State , Notre Dame and Georgia as having fairly legitimate chances.

Teams that most would pick after the seeds.

I agree w/ you when it comes to legitmate contenders. There's a good chance that the top 4 ranked teams end up in the Final 4.

However, tOSU (Ryan Day, etc) & Notre Dame obviously are really happy that the expanded playoff occurred this year. ;) I would not be surprised if both win & advance. tOSU wants revenge over Oregon; Georgia is down their starting QB.

I still don't like the seeding process (where the 12th ranked team got the #4 seed; the 9th ranked team got the #3 seed). But that's jmo....

Tell me why this clown is on TV with a mic attached to his head daily.

If not for tv they could cut back to 8 teams. We'll probably never see a team ranked hight than that win a NT.

I like the number at 12 to cut off the whining, I remember Penn State being undefeated and untied four times in my life from 1968 to 1994. They didn't have the chance to play the eventual ground champion.

Expanding it past 8 to 12 allows that very hot team with two losses to have a shot at it, and remember now we have these conference championship games which have changed things from the 30 -40 years ago. 12 probably isn't needed but it'll control the whining to some, never mind , there will still be whining.

Do not allow opinions to change the seeding in the playoffs. Boise state and AsU earned the seeds and rankings are just opinions. The second that is allowed ESPN controls the script and they will do everything in their power to ensure the right teams win. I remember when the sec bias started happening. The language used and stories they highlighted put down everything but the sec.

Do not give them that power. It would be an amazing thing especially in this new world if the teams outside the approved narrative became just as successful as the two mega conferences. The funny thing is for Iowa fans is the entire narrative being crafted against boise and asu is the exact narrative that will be used against Iowa. 11-1 Iowa doesn't deserve a spot over 10-3 Auburn. Iowa won the conference championship but really should have the bye over Texas.

These assholes at ESPN are ruining college sports and convincing fans it is what we want.

If Iowa is 11-1 and ranked top five and they win the conference championship they would get a bye. If they're ranked high enough after losing a conference championship game they're getting a home game or going on the road .

PSU was fourth but lost to Oregon so they got a home game. And after that we had how much SEC whining?

Just win and it takes care of itself .

You think so but that isn't true at all. Iowa is not the team ESPN wants to have a bye and the propaganda against a team like ours is immense. Look at the bullshit they have been spinning to control the future playoff decisions. Indiana didn't belong. 11-1 Indiana didn't belong.

I still don't think the #12 ranked team in the country should get a top 4 seed.
I'm not sure what the best solution is tho - should TX/PSU get byes despite losing their conference title games? should OSU when they didn't even play for the b10 title?

I guess I'm hoping this is just kind of a weird year where 1) first year of expanded playoffs + conference realignments and 2) there wasn't 4 teams that really separated themselves...SOMEBODY was going to get a bye that didn't really deserve one.

their body of work said they were the #12 team in the country. they only got in the CPF because they won their conference championship game over Iowa State. does that deserve a first round bye? IMO, it does not.
And their body of work is evaluated by the people with a vested interest in the sec.

They got the bye because the pkayoff indicated they should based on their body of work. Winning their conference.

You are asking great questions. I am guessing the Power 2 conference commissioners (SEC & B1G) are going to want to discuss CFP seeding in the offseason meetings

You state SOMEBODY was going to get a bye that didn't really deserve one; I would argue 2 of the 4 teams (Boise St & Arizona St) didn't deserve one.

Think of the advantage the 1st round bye gives those 4 teams. Boise St wasn't good enough to take advantage. Arizona St is taking advantage late here.

But that's my opinion.

I don't really disagree with what you have in bold - my counter is that NOBODY deserved those #3 and #4 seeds this year.

Win at least 11 games and let's see,

after seeing what you saw with Boise St & Arizona St, should tweaks be made to who gets the 4 first round byes?
Personally I think you run it back for next year and see whether this was just a fluky year or not.

I just get back to who should have gotten those #3 and #4 seeds instead of Boise/ASU. ASU btw imo has proven themselves worthy of that seed.
