#1 kicker Scott Starzyk commits to hawks

Drew Stevens is a JR and if he is back to form he will be the kicker for 2 more years. But good to have insurance in a back up with a big leg.

He could even take on the kickoff duties from Stevens because the hawks are going to score so many times this year we do not want Drew's leg to get strained.

I don't remember that at all so I had to look it up. He had six punts, all in 2001. Even with the hint, I still don't remember it. Why was that? Injury? Shitty punter the time? I remember that part of the game being a struggle in the '02 orange bowl year, but I have zero recollection of Kaeding ever punting.
He wasn't Tory Taylor good, but he was good enough to be a starter. I'm not sure that KF ever publicly spoke on it, but I recall others saying that he was concerned about Nate getting hurt and then not having a punter or a PK.

Well, about 70,000 of us did see something like that in 2015 when Marshall Koehn boomed a 57-yard FG to beat Pitt on the last play of the game, a kick that sent Kinnick into a frenzy. Seeing that in person was, indeed, "more exciting than a TD." It split the uprights and probably would have been good from at least 65 yards. The FG was set up by a CJ Beathard run on which he went down on purpose to save time for that final FG attempt.
All the better with Tyler Boyd under the uprights watching it go through like “are you effing kidding me?”

Obligatory in this situation

While fans continue to obsess over wide receivers, the ball coach continues to prioritize bringing in "foot"ballers.

Good to know that one of the few who actually gets it is running the program

Well. I guess we'll find out what commitment means to Scott......
True, but if there's any hint he won't be kicking this year...I wouldn't blame him. You don't sign the #1 kicker in the country and ask him to watch. Michigan must have a strategy.

Sure, BUT, he's going into his last year in high school. Its not out of the question that he gets a shot at the job at Iowa especially if Stevens struggles at some point again this year. Iowa almost NEVER gives a kicker a scholly upfront, so I imagine he'll get a shot when he gets to Iowa...

Looks like the Hawks will be just fine next season regardless of where Scott ends up. Drew has a cannon of a leg and so far looks very focused.
One has to wonder how much this will play into SS's decision. Last year Drew looked to be struggling. This year he's great. Doubt the #1 kicker in the country wants to sit for a season.

A year in a college strength and conditioning program and being able to see how a vet handles things would be a huge plus. I know 18 year old kids probably don't think that way but the job would be his for the next four years, and it's not like age/mileage is an issue for a kicker.

The #1 punter from last year is sitting this year. It’s a personal decision
