Iowa should be #1 anyway...and already are in various computer rankings.
What will be interesting is if Maryland, tied for second in the Big Ten, becomes #1 in the country. Especially when Iowa is the ONLY team in the nation to have five wins over top 50 teams.
Not that the rankings matter, of course...but they often do defy logic.
Before the season I would have signed up for 10 conference wins total
We've consistently seen improvement late in careers....Gatens,May,Marble,White etc..true. The 4 seniors and Jok have stepped up their games...you usually don't see this improvement late in careers.

Cole, May, Gatens, White for sure. We've consistently seen improvement late in careers....Gatens,May,Marble,White etc..
If Fran gets Iowa into the tournament next year, that will arguably be his best coaching job, just based on what he is losing this year.So how do they top this next year, continuing the trend of upward trajectory each year?

He takes the job.Next year will obviously be a step back from this year. Presuming Jok stays, I would still predict a top half conference finish though, with him in running for conference POY. Yes, lots of underclassman will need to step up, but players will emerge and there is depth/talent from which it can emerge.
Two yrs from now, back to amongst top teams in conference and highly ranked. (Barring any major injuries of course)
A perhaps more intriguing question: presuming Fran keeps things at a high level, does a more "prestigious" job opportunity come along, and if so, what does he do?

With his kids in the pipeline and given his age, I doubt he leaves Iowa, unless maybe ND were to come open.Next year will obviously be a step back from this year. Devin played poorly down the stretch of sr year.
He would be the outlier however.
Notre Dame is not getting rid of Mike Brey.
Well done .... .... I think. In the years to come we will think of 2015-16 as that "Championship Season".

Just for the record, McCaffery was asked on his radio show last Tuesday if he had ambitions to move on. He flatly stated that he and his family loved Iowa City and they weren't going anywhere. I don't know what incentives are in his current contract, but I would like to see him get an extension and a nice raise. He has worked his tail off to get us where we are.
