*** #12 Iowa vs Northwestern WBB Game Thread ***

I was looking forward to the men's and women's games this week with the most joy and anticipation I can remember. The men took care of business. Now onto the women who happen to have the most exciting player in the game! Great time to be a Hawk!

Throw in the mens wrestling team too this weekend at the Big Ten Chanpionships. Should be a great couple of weeks for Hawkeye fans.

A head's up for those who don't closely follow every game. There will be turnovers. We are averaging 21 per game in our last four games against their "blizzard" defense.

The formula for beating NW is what Minnesota did in the first half. Feed the post and drive aggressively. Need to value the ball. On defense we need to force NW to shoot contested threes and shut down driving lanes. Would be really nice to advance. I feel like other than MD, NW gives us the most problems.

Sure wish we had the home crowd for this one. For the men it doesn’t seem to matter, but I think the crowd at Carver really makes a difference for the women.
That said, there should be a fairly strong Hawkeye turnout in Indy.

Monika cannot pick up cheap fouls early & be on the bench again against this team.

I have confidence in Addison O'Grady to step up if she were to get into foul trouble
O'Grady has done well this season, but Northwestern doesn't matchup well with her strengths.

O'Grady shines offensively when we're in transition. Northwestern will aggressively try to take away transition opportunities. Defensively, O'Grady has done much better than Monika at protecting the rim, but Northwestern doesn't have much of a post presence. They prefer to shoot jumpers or use the pick and role to get 5s away from the basket, then have their guards drive.

Monika is huge in this game because she will likely be our #1 scoring option in the half court. Clark will still score, but Burton and the blizzard defense will make things tougher on her. O'Grady doesn't offer the same low-post presence. If Monika is out for an extended period, our offense will suffer.

Literally anyone else? Clark is carrying. So many altered shots at the rim. Get into their bodies and draw the fouls.

Granted... refs are calling nothing.

They need to move more without the ball. Get this pressure defense chasing them around in circles. They’ll be worn out by the end of the game.

32-31 iowa at the half. Need Kate and Gabbie to shoot when they're wide open from 3. Passed up a few. Don't force it but when no one is within 10 feet of you shoot the ball.
