WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (Gray News) - A 13-year-old girl is accused of killing her mom after having her phone taken away, according to Pennsylvania authorities.

Wilkes-Barre Police Department responded to the scene around 12:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a 44-year-old victim with multiple stab wounds to her neck, back and blood coming from her head, WYOU reported.

Officers said when they first made contact with Lataya Powell she said she was sorry she killed her mother. Authorities said she stabbed her mother during an argument.

“I killed my mom, and she’ll never forgive me if she is alive,” Powell reportedly told police.

She said she threw the weapon on the neighbor’s doorstep, along with making other comments.

“I don’t have my phone because my mom took it before our fight,” she said.

While being taken into custody, she told WYOU that she felt “regret, guilt and self-disgust.”

Police also found an 11-year-old boy with stab wounds to the back, but they appeared to be non-life threatening.

Powell has been charged with homicide, two counts of aggravated assault, and tampering with evidence.

She is being charged as an adult.

Held in juve until an adult then shipped off to big girl prison. What an unbelievable waste of lives due to a terrible decision by the daughter all because her Mother was doing the parenting thing and punishing her by taking her phone. Sad, very sad.

I believe the new term is she 'unalived' her mom. I don't know why but that seems to be a thing now.

Where was the good guy with a knife? Certainly no one would have been hurt if someone like that were around.

The stab wounds being non-fatal on her 11 year old brother's back makes me believe there is hope for her yet.
Makes me believe the boy was getting in between mom and sis and sis kept on a stabbin'. I don't think there's room for hope but we don't know the whole story.

you can have phones in jail now which really upsets some of the "younger generations have it too easy" crowds.
I can imagine that being true in some jails, but how universal is it? Hard to imagine it's widespread unless they somehow severely regulate it.

If they have smart phones, that presumably means they have access to the internet, porn, bomb-making instructions, terrorist sites, and FOX News.

Scary.
