'16-'17 B1G Will be Manageable for Iowa

Iowa is likely to slip back a bit next year but it could be a golden time for a slight slip or even a time to work in new players and still make the dance. I think the B1G could be very manageable for the Hawks next year as the league will be very top heavy and then very open after the top four.

Thomas Bryant is coming back to Indiana next season likely making them a beast to deal withh and putting them with MSU, WIsconsin and Purdue as the early favorites to be the national faces of the B1G next year. Carter from Maryland has announced he is going pro which now in my mind slips Maryland from being a top 5 B1G team down to the group that includes Iowa, Michigan, Ohio St, Northwestern, Nebraska and Illinois as teams fighting for 5th -11th. In my book all of those teams could be pretty even next season if things go right for all of them. Jok could be one of the top players in the B1G next year and maybe Uhl just needs the SR's to clear out so he can move in for a bigger role before he breaks out. I think Iowa is a team that could hit its stride late with all the youth and could finish anywhere between 5th and 7th and sneak back into the dance.

Like I said this could be a great year for a team in the B1G to have a step back year while trying to work in a bunch of new players. Players like Carter leaving early are only helping Iowa right now.

I should add that having a couple top 10 teams like MSU and Indiana should help the B1G get 7 teams to the dance despite having a bunch of potential bubble teams in the league. I think MSU and Indiana could have top 5 potential next year. Wisconsin and Purdue will bounch around inside the top 20 while I think one other B1G team will jump out and be a fringe top 25 team.

So we can toss out Indiana, Purdue, MSU, Michigan and Penn State as teams we could play twice...won't happen. In my opinion that is five teams on the rise or already pretty high up, so, good! Right. The fact Iowa wont have to play MSU, Indiana and Purdue twice works out greatly to Iowa's benefit. Most of Iowa's B1G games next year will be against teams with equal to lesser talent by the looks of things now. Next season is set up nicely for Iowa to rebuild but still sneak into the dance and keep Iowa's momentum going forward.

Iowa will have the players with pedigrees next year(Cook, Moss, and Bohannon all 4* per ESPN) but very little experience. Could be rough until the chemistry develops. Would have been a good year for a summer trip.

Teams like Illinois, Northwestern, Penn St., Nebraska, Ohio State (maybe), Minnesota, and Michigan, should all be better next year. Maryland and Iowa seem to take the biggest steps back. Now, I want to make it clear, I am very much looking forward to next year's Iowa team. These guys will be young and inexperienced which will be a problem in the B10......that said, they will be much more athletic as a team and I think go much deeper into the bench. It is also my guess that this roster will be much closer to what Fran see's as the type to play his style of bball.

I can't wait for the PTL, I can't wait for next year! I just don't think that expecting an NCAA team is a good thing, We could get there, and I hope that we do, but I hope we don't have the negative stupidity that comes when a team doesn't meet unrealistic expectations.

I think Iowa will be about .500 next season. They might be better if the new team gels but i will wait and see.

I think they'll be sub .500 in the league and just miss the NCAA tourney. But, it could still be a fun ride. Hopefully we'll see them improve as the year progresses.
I'd really like to see them break the cycle of the season ending swoon 2 of the last 3 seasons.

Agree, there were plenty of things/players to grip about towards the end of the year. We had 2 guards that couldn't shoot, a center that's 7'1 and had a hard time making a layup. And I also agree ute was kinda soft but still a very fine player. I too am a big hawk fan and have been forever, dan is a guy that thinks you have to be politically correct and can't say anything negative. That's what these forums are for, to voice opinions where or not everyone agrees with them.

Books is probably an understatement. That being said, if that's what he wants to do? Great. Go for it. Just respect others opinions.
