They're calling this a trap game for Iowa, and saying Nebraska has a lot more to play for. One of them alluded to the notion that Iowa might be thinking they can still get in at 12-1 if they win the BCC. Interestingly ESPN also said today a 12-1 Iowa team could still get in with the way ND has been sluggish of late.

In any case, do you buy the notion that Nebraska will be more amped for this game? I mean, how often do you have a chance to go undefeated in the regular season? Hopefully the Hawks are looking at this stuff and using it as added motivation.

I was thinking about this earlier as well.

On the show last night they were saying that as things stand right now, Iowa vs MSU (Provided they get past PSU) would basically be a "Play-In" game for one of the 4 playoff slots. So I think that even if Iowa tripped up against Nebraska (as MSU did) and then went on to beat MSU in the Conference Championship, they should still be able to land a slot in the Playoff.

But just to make it easier, might as well with both, get to 13-0 and then make it a no-brainer that they're moving on lol.

GO HAWKS

Its just going to be a tough game. Senior Day in Lincoln is a tough place to play. While I think Nebbie will be more fired up to get to that coveted 6th win and go bowling, I just think CJB has the knack to win. Iowa's defense might give up yards and bend, but they won't break and hold Nebbie to some FG's. I think the Iowa offense will get it going and put some points. I do not think it will be low scoring game. I think it will be a shoot-out (big ten style not big 12). Im thinking something in lines with 38-31 ball game or something like that.

.just opinions of analyst...mine 31--21 Hawks...season on the line...the guys will be motivated

Every week, another opportunity. I love that all eyes will be on the Hawkeyes in this game.

Just do what you do, Hawkeyes, and soon you will capture the underdog heart of college football fans everywhere. It will never be the first story, but it could be the best story--and with a little luck, the final story of the 2015 season.

Go Hawks!

Sure they could lose, Nebraska is by no means a terrible team, their record could easily be better if they didn't have some bad luck. However even if we end up losing, I don't think it will be due to intensity and definitely not because they are looking ahead. I know it is cliche but both Ferentz and most if not all of the players always mention playing the opponent in front of them and not looking ahead.

We've seen tons of crazy lately, but if you got this right that is as bad as it gets.

How could anything be better or more important than an undefeated season?

I get the trap game thing.... I really wish they were 9-2 or something. Not because I'm "worried" Iowa won't be amped - it just seems more fun that way

I agree with this. ^^ The Nebby game, to me, does not fit the definition of a "trap" game. It is simply going to be a tough win to get because of the quality of the opponent and the venue IMO. Win or lose, there is no way Iowa is looking past this game.

This is the one to win and it has nothing to do with it being Nebraska. While it's certainly difficult to get into the big ten championship game, and even tougher to win it, how many teams get a chance to go undefeated for an entire regular season?.... we got this.

If we did lose we would not be dead and buried, but we would need victories by Stanford and Oklahoma State. I very much like the chances of 1 loss BT champion Iowa over Baylor and Oklahoma St. It would be very easy for the committee to say "look at their non conference schedule, they didn't even try to play anybody." Iowa would have 9 conference games (going 8-1) as well, so that's a wash. There's a good chance TCU would fall out of the top 25 with a loss to Baylor, giving both just a single win against other top 25 teams. 1 loss Oklahoma would be a much tougher sell. If Oklahoma won in Stillwater, we'd probably need some other unforseen upheaval like Clemson or Alabama losing. But as a one loss champ we would very much be on the bubble.

Nebraska can be fired up all they want, they still have to go through us. Instead of looking at it from the lens of Nebby being tough to beat, how about we turn the tables and consider that Nebby will have its hands full stopping the Hawkeye train!

If we lose we are out. A loss to Neb would most likely drop us behind whoever wins the ND Stanford game and possibly Baylor if they win. Even with a win over whoever the east puts in (I am assuming MSU but stranger things have happened) in the title I don't know we'd be able to get back into the playoff picture, simply put lets just win this game and not worry about the what ifs.

I mentioned this same thing on Sunday. I think we could lose and still go into playoff.
I think the analysts are putting more grain. Unto nebby win over msu than our season. We will be ready to play. It's gonna be a game and a half.
13 and 0. It's not. Matter of who wants it more...it's a matter of who executes on O.
With that in mind our O has been executing extremely well for several games. This one will be tougher, but I think CJ will pull this one out for an ageless victory

Which ones picked it for Nebraska? The BTN JV analists?

Pat Forde and Dave Wanstead. Stanley Jackson picked Iowa.

Wantstead and Forde said they think Nebraska will have more motivation. Wanstead was the one who called this a possible trap game and threw out the idea that Iowa might be thinking they can still get in at 12-1.

They'll be amped. They should be. If they aren't and playing for a bowl bid if they win then things are really wrong in Lincoln. And the suits predicting what they did isn't a surprise either. Withstand the initial 5 or 6 minutes then proceed to work'em.

Oh, Pat Forde? He's never given Iowa any credit no matter what the circumstances have been. I think he got his fill of Iowa fans during the Mizzou NO MAS incident and being a grad of, has said very few, if anything at all, positive things about the Iowa program since.

Pat Forde hates Iowa so no big deal that ol Fred Flintstone head picked Nebraska.........he is another that it drives him nuts that Iowa is ranked this high. Too funny.

How do they have more momentum, we're on an 11 game winning streak? I'm not upset with you, of course, just dumb logic on their part.

SEC-their champ is in 12-1
ACC- their champ is in 13-0 or 12-1
B1G- their champ is in 13-0 or 12-1
Big-12 doesn't have a championship game and they have no undefeated teams, tough to hold a spot for them but they appear to have one right now
ND- no conference championship and not undefeated
ACC/SEC- Runner up could be in if upsets happen across the board
Pac-12 champ will have 2 losses- they are out

More motivation?
At some point championship teams move beyond the need for extra motivation--they play at a consistent level of excellence that another team's blips of emotion cannot sustain. Iowa has not played a bad game all year, and they will play well again, because they have proven to be a championship level team. They will execute as they have all year; Nebraska will turn the ball over and commit turnovers as they have all year. 35-14 Hawks!

Umm lots of problems with that the SEC champ could have 2 losses so to say the Pac-12 would be out with 2 losses is just crazy as the committee likes Stanford so if the would beat ND and then win their title game easily they could make a big move where they would be in front of a 1 loss Iowa team even if we win the title. We lose to Neb we are gonna need help to get in. Even if ND wins they would have wins over 3 or possibly 4 top 25 teams we would have at best wins over 2 top 25 teams and a loss to Neb and a schedule everyone has ripped to shreds all year about how bad it is. Like I said lets just win this weekend and not need to worry about it.

This game has all the makings of a trap game. Analysts look at this and think it's a perfect spot for an upset and I would agree when you look at what's going on.

Nebraska coming off a bye week.
It's a trophy game.
Winning gets them bowl eligible.
It's their final game at home this year.
They want to crush Iowa's undefeated season.

It all adds up to the public siding with Nebraska. I just hope Iowa keeps playing smart, mistake free football and they will weather the storm.

I can't say I disagree. I think the Hawks will lose their next three games. 11-3 is still one helluva season !

They need to garble interest so people tune in for this blowout
I agree to an extent that they need to try to hype this game up, but the Vegas line strikes me as odd and hat has nothing to do with TV ratings. When has a team been a pick 'em against a conference foe with 6 fewer wins?I'm guessing I'm not the only one that's putting this easy $ toward the Indy trip?

Iowa potentially in a history setting week
It's a trophy game
Winning keeps them in the college football playoff.

Right now 5Dimes has Iowa a 2 point favorite which was at 1.5 this morning. Since it's at Nebraska that means Vegas thinks Iowa would be a 5 point favorite at home. The home team generally gets a FG in their favor when it comes to odds. I think the line is right where it should be.

If the Hawks play as they have all season we will win. We are the better and more complete team.
