2016 Olympics are not looking so good.

Are we favored to win the medal race? Maybe worth a quick military invasion of the host cities to make sure things run smoothly and a small force left behind to protect all the best brothels?

You project pissed most of the time from my POV. I think it is your default state in or out of any particular forum. I firmly believe you are a master watersports engineer. If your goal is to come across as easy going and jovial, you have failed. Why are you even asking me to analyze you?

I wasn't asking you to analyze me, I was asking why you thought I was pissed, and you answered it. I would guess that you think I'm pissed because that's what you want to believe, because you really don't do a whole lot of anything except troll. Now, you aren't as bad as Fred, but you aren't very far off from that.

It doesn't bother me, but if you had any real ideas, you could have jumped in that thread with Trad, Uni, and myself, and talked about how we would change the education system. Is anyone ever going to take our advice? Doubtful. It still is nice to have an actual debate sometimes. I think that's why most of us are here.

Yes, too much regulation is what gave them poo in the water. It's like every time a con points fingers it's because he knows he is guilty. Only one team is for environmental protection. Your team is out shooting people so they can burn the forest down. And let's not forget what your team did to Flint.

No corrupt Gov had limited opportunity. Just like Flint. People don't want shit in their water. BUT corrupt, massive, incompetent (it's the only type) Gov has fostered a society that cannot develop.

Free markets and limited, stable Gov makes things better. Gov cannot fix problems...as I tell my son 'all the help in the world won't fix any of your problems IF you're unwilling to fix YOURSELF'

I don't believe you. I don't think you are here for debate at all. Why do I think that? Because you offer up such ill informed positions and refuse to base points on evidence. I think you are here to troll and complain and be incessantly negative about most every circumstance. I get it, you like to bitch. Lets not get on our high horse and pretend otherwise.

If you're going to analyse the Rio water issues you are going to need to start with a firmer base. Is this all conjecture or are you offering us some real lessons? As you might guess, a fair amount of education is going to be required on your part to bring the interested up to speed.

It's unfortunate that you believe that. You missed a good conversation earlier tonight.

Hardly, I read it. But lets recall you opted to block the avenue of discussion. Which just shows I have you pegged correctly. You are fooling no one. Your policy positions are naive, unsupported and unworkable while your personal character is dishonest, authoritarian and petulant.

Still nothing but trolling. What you posted is obviously a lie because I was able to have a good conversation with Trad and Uni. Why couldn't you have been a part of that? Is it because you don't wish to have any kind of real discussion?

You were the only one adamant that there wasn't a problem, despite the 19% illiteracy rates. You're so in the pocket of your party that it makes you unable to discuss anything outside your comfort zone. I truly feel sorry for you.

Not trolling. Sad that this was overlooked as a serious policy suggestion. "99% of my life I've been lied to, I just found out my mom does more dope than I do."

Its not my impression that our military delivers smooth running operations. I bet we could just buy the medals easier.

Exactly what happens when we have to share the olympics with the rest of the world. The olympics have grown so large there are probably only a handful of places on earth that can do it right.

Let's just keep it local.

We were down there to watch my daughter row in the Jr. Worlds last summer. The Lagoon is filthy, the kids have to wash with bleach water when they come out of the water. All it takes it water splashing up into your eyes, or onto your face and you get some in your mouth. The kids took their water bottles with them and kept them in plastic bags, rowing is an intense sport and you are constantly hydrating. Despite trying to limit exposure to water from the lagoon, kids got sick. I would say that 20% of the kids from all the countries got sick at some point. The problem the reporting is poor, as coaches do not want to tip the other teams as to who is sick in their boat, so official reports are limited. The French boat claimed no one got sick, yet we have photos of two of their rowers vomiting over the side of the boat. Rio, over all is lovely. When we went down it was something like 2.3 Real to the dollar. It is now 4 to the dollar. So damn cheap when we went there, I cannot imagine what it is like now. Airfare will choke you though.

Anyhow, Rio has 6.3 million people, 1.3 million live in favellas that have open sewers, many of these drain into the Lagoon. So that is what you get, a big rain in the hills washes it all down at once.
Thanks for the good info.

What do you think might be a solution to this problem? Is there one? Is there one they can afford with their economy slipping?

We should be more like Somalia?

I would love to see a state or 2 become laboratories for libertarian policies. A few years back I read that S.Carolina was reporting a large growth in people identifying as libertarians and that libertarians were moving there in unusual numbers. I haven't heard anything since, so maybe that was just a blip. There are a few other states that might be good candidates.

N.Carolina seems headed that way, too, complete with legislators who want to make it illegal to use science in public policy. Together with underfunding, disregard of facts is a great way to make government look bad.

The problem is - as natural pointed out - most of the time we hear about situations like Flint, inadequate regulation was the problem, not the solution. Duke Power has been polluting the waterways, land and air for a very long time, thanks to inadequate regulation. Does anyone think they will do better with less regulation?

Still, I'd like to see those experiments. As long as they aren't in my state.

Interesting.

Is it going to happen?

What will happen to housing prices and the job market if 20K people suddenly show up? And I imagine a lot more will follow it it looks like it's really happening.

When do you plan to move?

Too freaking cold. I'll wait for the revolution to catch on down south.

I'm gonna need a review on what analyze means here . . . okay, I pronounced it wrong, we're good. BTW, you're underestimating the impact of mosquitos propogating the virus as the impact could be doubled if the mosquito ejaculates on you. Science.

I get where you are coming from, but I'm not sure I'd say that, and yes I have been there. Parts of Rio are lovely (Santa Theresa for example) but it is not at all a safe city and as you point out the lawless favelas are located quite close to some of the nicer parts. I do like the weather there, and I found the Pao de Acucar and Cristo Redentor tourists sites to be worth seeing once.

My bottom line - if I cannot comfortably walk around a city without fear of my safety, I can't claim it is lovely. Capetown in South Africa is somewhat similar to Rio - beautiful topography, great touristy things to do (Table Mountain is awesome), but not at all safe or secure and too much wealth divide.

Photos below are of Pao de Acucar (Sugarloaf Mountain), Cristo Redentor, the view from Cristo Redentor to Pao de Acucar, and Table Mountain, respectively.

Nailed it. Like every other elitist-utopian movement, it will work very well until the idiots show up.

That's a supportable conclusion based on policy positions. We have Ernst and Branstad providing some recent local examples.
Pig turds. I don't know about human waste, but neither of those two care one bit about pig turds in our waterways.

Been out awhile...but a big part of Flint's issues are not just from what is happening now...it's from 60 years of piss poor management and financial ineptitude that unfortunately is widespread in our Gov.

Stupid people...putting crooks, liars, and morons in office...wanting everything NOW without paying for it. It's inevitable so the only solution is limit the size and scope of Gov. Clearly massive Gov hasn't solved anything...or issues like this wouldn't happen. What it has given us is poor results and financial destruction (that part is coming). .

If it wasn't for government regulations and regulatory oversight we'd have turds in our water as well.
I always like rationally discussing over regulation with people. It is true that there could be streamlining of government, but I fascinate myself by asking people just how much mercury is acceptable to them in their drinking water? How much rat feces in their corn flakes? They sputter out, "none". Oh, so regulation is needed...
