2018 Rando prediction thread...

If our punter doesn't improve, I would personally rather see them line up there offense of 4th down and let Stanley punt. You know the D has play honest, if they drop to many people back we just throw the ball. Of course, my prediction was actually that our starting punter, who ever that will be will actually kick a ball over 40 yards, at least once this year. Hell, he has to have the wind at his back at least once, doesn't he?

Your first sentence gave me a chuckle. Your second sentence actually got me thinking a bit.

I would certainly be in favor of a Stanley shotgun formation on 4th downs near midfield. Let Nate do his pooch punt -- but also, have him throw for a 1st down out of that formation early in the season to give opponents something to think about. If it is successful (1st down) a couple times, I believe most DCs would opt not to put a returner 40 yards downfield - advantage Iowa..... and, if Nate is good at pooch punting, excellent field position for the Iowa defense.

I rather like this idea.

At approximately 7:30 PM on September 8th, Iowa's defeat of ISU will become official. By 7:31 PM, thousands of Iowa fans will have already heard from their butthurt ISU: family members, coworkers, neighbors, etc. about how Iowa didn't in fact win the game. Iowa State gave it to them. This statement will be followed by talk of terribly officiating and next year's brewing storm.

It's crazy to think that if Iowa were to beat ISU in 2018 it would mark the first time in Kirk's tenure Iowa has won 4 in a row.

Just have a gut feel on this one that the Iowa margin of victory will not be small in this one.

Stanley will have positive rushing yards to end the season. It may be less than 20 but he gets a better feel in the pocket and doesn't take as many sacks.

Stone will continue his trend of getting more interceptions than starts. Again, he will like start 0 games ... but he finishes the season with 2 INTs.

I definitely hope your right. The ability to scramble away from pressure and deliver a positive outcome is one of the biggest keys to Stanley's development at QB this year IMHO. If he succeeds Iowa's offense has the potential to be so much more potent.

Iowa averaged 28.2 points per game last year, which was 59th in the country. That average was boosted by the UN and OSU games. If Iowa can score 30 points per game and the defense is top 30, it can be a 9+ win season.

Brandon Smith breaks out - and with his height, strength and other-worldly high-pointing, becomes a de facto third Tight End - with Noah and T.J. the most devastating trio in college football in the nation in 2018. (other receivers new and veteran continue to flash like lightning and emerge as well). Great passing offense, and the Big Ten's best offensive line opens amazing running lanes for our terrific backs. D has time to mature into a force to be reckoned with. Special teams all grow. Season to remember!
