Could 2019 be the year Iowa dethrones PSU? There is going to be a ton of talent in the lineup and a nice mix of year classes.

What say the resident wrestling gurus of Hawkeye Report?

In 2019, PSU will still have 4 people that have won NCAA championships on their team (Nolf, Cenzo, Hall, Nickal). They will also still have proven performers like Nevills and Suriano.

PSU also has 6 top 15 recruits that have given verbal commitments for the 2018 class and signed 2 top 10 recruits from the 2017 class.

Things are looking up for the Hawks, but 2019 is too soon to rationally predict Iowa beating PSU.

Heck, I say it's too late, add McKenna and Downey and go after it in 2018...

Iowa needs some good luck and PSU some bad luck. Like Iowa has been having with injuries the last few years and anything is possible.

Iowa is creeping closer; getting quality depth and impact guys; Lee and Warner....quality transfers IN and it sounds like more guys have the itch to come to Iowa then in years past (recent)....

This. Both these guys have to be top 3 guys sooner rather than later. Add in Kemmerer as a champ (w/out Nolf), Marinelli getting to top 3 level, Lugo getting to top 5 level, and hopefully we have an impact freshman or 2 from the 2018 and 2019 class that can compete at a high AA level as RS and true freshman and we're in business for a possible team title in 2020.

Agree with the comments above. We will have a good team in 2019, but PSU will be better. 2020 is the earliest I could even begin to see it, and we are still a couple studs from having that conversation.

I honestly think that Lugo could get to a top 3 level. After Retherford graduates, the top competition will be Joey McKenna, Max Thomsen and Solomon Chishko (assuming Micah Jordan moves up to 157 by then). Wouldn't be surprised to see Lugo elevate himself to title contender status while here at Iowa. Already has a win over PSUs heir to 149, in Berge. Throttled OConnor, and even had a good win over Storr by TF. Granted these were all FS wins, but still impressive nonetheless. With him working out with Sorensen, Kemerer, Perry, Marinelli, The Dardanes brothers, and the Brands he is set to have a great training situation. Could even potentially have IMAR in the HWC.
