The Hawkeyes begin play in 20 days and I am disappointed that there is not more action on this board. I think this could be the best team Rick has ever had and I would definitely peg us as having a great chance to be a tourney team. Let’s get some discussion going about the hawks. My first question is jack dreyer? How is health? You would assume if healthy he would be a weekend starter with judkins and Baumann. Second question? Who is going to play in the infield. From what I hear the juco guy Nedved should contend for a starting spot and also help us pitching in relief. Brandon sher should make big strides this year in his second year with the hawks. Is Lorenzo Elion going to play short? You figure izaya Fullard and zeb Adreon should play first or DH along with maybe Padgett. Norman and Jenkins will provide us with a good outfield defense. Who does everyone think will be the third outfielder until we get Connor back from the basketball team. I’d prefer if it wasn’t adreon because he hurt us at times defensively last year. Maybe Trenton Wallace? I’m also extremely excited about our pitching staff. With our top 2 relievers back (Hoffman and grant Leonard) we should be able to hold onto leads. Also does anyone know how Ben Probst is doing. He has a great arm. Also I’m looking forward to seeing how davitt and some of the younger pitchers develop. Go hawks!

From the D1Baseball.com preview it sounds as if the infield will be the following:

1B: Padgett
2B: Fullard
SS: Nedved
3B: Sher

The outfield will be Jenkins, Norman, and TBD. Adreon’s bar is too valuable to keep on the bench so I expect him to work in someplace. Martin and McCleary will be behind the plate.

I’m bullish on the pitching staff. The coaches are optimistic Probst can earn the post-TJ bump and sit in the mid-90s and flirt with 98mph. Having Leonard to close out games is provides great confidence.

The schedule is a beast. If they can make taking two games a weekend a habit in the non-con they should have a great RPI heading into conference play.

Hoping Wallace can really take a step forward in his consistency. After watching him several times his senior year of high school I think he certainly has the tools to do it. Also hoping Tanner comes back strong. He just didn’t seem the same after he came back from injury. Agree that Adreon’s bat has to be in the lineup. Really liked the way Sher looked the end of last season. Can’t wait to get back to Banks this season and hoping to make the trip to Minnesota to see the ACC games.

Plenty of baseball talk on here once the season starts. Iowa has been in position for at large bids in the final month the last two years, and they have not got it done. Hope this year is different. Need a few sweeps especially when you’ve won on Fri-Sat.

If they can get a year where some key injuries don't occur, they could have a big year. Always some question marks with the new guys, I'm interested in what Padgett, Sher and Fullard can do with another year of development.
