2022-23 Big Ten Basketball Rosters and Returning minutes

Illinois has not been decimated in the true sense of the word. Good opportunity to reload. Kofi, Hawkins, Melendez, Goode, Podziemski return. Melendez is one to watch for a breakout.

Currently, Illinois has the 8th best recruiting class in the country. A five star and 3 four stars. Skyy Clark, Jayden Epps, Ty Rodgers and Sincere Harris. Also added four star transfer center Dain Dainja from Baylor.

Transfer portal should bring in a couple of players, too. Terrance Shannon is a strong possibility. They have offered Courtney Ramey as a veteran point to help with Clark and Epps. Brandon Murray is on campus today.

Illinois lost some good players, no doubt. But some 4-star rated returnees who had to wait behind seniors (Melendez, Goode, Podziemski), a blossoming big (Hawkins), a top recruiting class, and a couple of transfers will help a reload.

And, of course, Kofi is expected back. Who knows, he could change his mind, but he would be taking a pay cut to play any where else but the NBA and he is not on draft boards. Put four talented players around Kofi and you’re going to be good.

Don’t write Illinois off just yet. Some moving parts but a chance to be better than last year.
Looking more decimated today. Not that you don’t have great talent coming in, but in terms of what you actually return.

Gotta reload, am I right? The goal is to send guys to the league and replace them, so I hope Kofi makes it! It’s a rebuilding year, for sure, but I’m just happy to be back at the spot where our “rebuilding year” teams aren’t bad.

Jebus you wouldn’t cut it as an Iowa fan….we just had a rebuilding year and won 26 games, the B10 Tournament, and we’re sending a guy to the league and there’s idiots here who want to fire the coach!

Geronimo just announced is sticking around along with Race last week. Just waiting on TJD’s decision.

Yeah the Geronimo news seems surprising. With Race, a 5* and a 4* forward coming back and likely TJD as well I figured Geronimo was the most likely to exit.

Hi all,
I have put together an initial Google Doc with all of the current Big Ten returning rosters (including returning minutes and points), incoming recruits, incoming transfers, and open scholarships. I will keep this up-to-date with any news.
Everything is color coded for class to the best of my knowledge. I assumed players would utilize their COVID year unless I found an article or an announcement stating a player wouldn't. COVID seniors are marked with an asterisk. I also assumed any player in the transfer portal and any player in the NBA draft is not returning until news states a player is returning.
All stats for returning players are taken from ESPN (including heights and positions) and all recruiting info is taken from Rivals. I only included a player's minutes and PPG if they played in 20+ games, unless I knew they had an injury, so we didn't water it down with garbage time players
If any information looks incorrect, please let me know. Like I said, I will keep this updated as we get news throughout the off-season.

REALLY impressive work OP! Great job!

So, am I reading that information correctly? Minny and OSU have almost no one coming back?

That would be correct--although Minnesota returns their best player and they've already brought in 2 of the better transfers so far. Minnesota's issue was they barely played anyone to begin with. Their starting 5 had to have all averaged close to 35 minutes a game. OSU also is waiting on Malki Branham's NBA decision--some mocks have him mid first round though so I'd guess he likely stays in the draft, but we will see.
I'll also give a disclaimer that while I believe these to be all up to date--there's a good chance I miss things here or there.

OP this is a great idea. Thank you, you are always killing it on basketball threads 💯

however I wish Iowa had some more updates on this thread :/

Interesting.....as Sgt. Schultz would say, "I KNOW NOTHING" when it comes to the NBA draft and I would have guessed this young man though talented....was not ready. That said, I keep hearing about drafting on potential and if we looked that up in the dictionary, this kids picture would be there.
Yeah the NBA draft can be kind of weird--both Diabate and Houston were top 20 recruits in last year's class and likely had the expectation to be 1 and dones. They both definitely did not improve their stock this past year with their play though.

Diabate is certainly talented, but let's not judge him by his game against us last season, when, like so many players in the past, he had a career night.

played about 8 minutes a game but was expected to be a bigger role player next year.

Transfer portal in action: apparently their presumed starting PG--Howard brings in Llewellyn, starting PG get's frustrated, decides to transfer out.
