----------------------
The 2023 season is upon us. NIL. Transfer portal. Point quotas. Gambling suspensions. New faces abound! As KF always says, the special years at Iowa usually involve some good stories, and those “good stories” usually involve someone stepping up and going above and beyond expectations. Who might it be? Here’s a list of likely suspects to make a splash for the Hawks in ’23.

Quick primer for those who don't know how BOAF (Birds of a Feather) works. This is kind of a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon type contest. As you read the list, you'll see that most of the names have something fairly obvious in common with the name above it...typically spelling or pronunciation. But then along comes one that doesn't look, sound or spell like the one above it. Those are marked with (*). It's your task to figure out what the connection is to complete the spelling/pronunciation link.

Example:
Walt Disney
Walt Frazier
Kelsey Grammer (*)
Why would Kelsey Grammar follow Walt Frazier? Obviously because Kelsey Grammer played Frasier Crane on "Cheers" and "Frasier". Get it?

Also, while there can be multiple valid connections, there is only ONE right answer for each item. And that is whatever connection Ol' Doodle came up with while creating the list. As each correct answer is provided, Doodle will do his best to update the original post so you're not efforting on ones that have been solved.

Finally, the BOAF must be completed before kickoff on Saturday to avoid negative karma points that could haunt our favorite squad for the rest of the season.

So there you have it. Simple, right? :)

Gomez Addams: Two D's in Addams
Stuart Goddard (*): AKA singer, Adam Ant, who is best known for the song "Goody Two Shoes."

So, two D's, two shoes?

Or not overthinking it: Gomez Addams, "Adam" Ant. I'm a noob at this, sorry.

"Lewis" Puller
Alfred Cunningham (*) - Alfred Cunningham bridge spans the "Neuse" river.
Elsie Bennett (*) - Elsie Bennett played "Lucy" in an episode of the TV series, Birds of a Feather.

Lewis Puller and Alfred Cunningham were both long serving US Marines and both served during the Occupation of Nicaragua.

Rudolph Valentino
Laura Wright (*)

Laura Wright is the Coordinator of Research Services at Rudolph Matas Library of the Health Sciences at Tulane University

Jay Leno
Josh Thompson (*)

Josh Robert Thompson (aka Geoff Peterson) pioneered the Jay Leno Fly on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

Side note, we just saw Craig's stand up show Saturday. Excellent stuff.

Mason Rudolph
Rudolph Valentino

Mason was played for the Pittsburgh Steers & the Pittsburgh National AvIary has a sloth named Rudolph Valentino
This is a cool coincidence, but you don't need to "solve' this one. The connection is that they both have Rudolph in their names. Only the ones with (*) need a response.

Mike White
Robert Peters (*)

Mike White was head coach for the U. of Illinois football team.
Pro golfer Thomas Pieters played golf for the U. of Illinois.

Sorry Hawk a diddle: this contribution is silly and doesn't do a thing for Hawkeye pride or reclaiming a winning tradition this year. so I give it 2 thumbs down.
Good Morning GIF by Taco Bell

Pierce Brosnan
Adam Gomez (*)

Pierce Brosnan played Dr Fate in movie Black Adam

Ok this one is a reach but I wanted to put it out there anyway.

Rachel Bilson
Brian Miller (*)

Rachael Bilson dated Bill Hader who is cousins with Carol Burnett. Carol Burnett's husband is you guessed it Brian Miller!

Rachel Bilson was a star of The OC (orange county), a county which borders Los Angeles county. Carrol Burnett met her husband Brian Miller in Long Beach California which just so happens to be situated in Los Angeles county.

I'm sticking with the Carol Burnett angle. Rachel Bilson dated Bill Hader, who revealed he had a huge crush on Carol Burnett before finding out they were related. Carol Burnett is married to Brian Miller.

Rachel Bilson
Brian Miller (*)

OK. Maybe I'm digging too deep here.
Rachel Bilson started in OC set in Newport Beach where Brian Miller owns a real estate business

Robert Peters is the Illinois State Senate representative of Chicago's 13th district

OK, this is a longshot.

Herman Miller
Mike Gordon (*)

Herman Miller's award winning factory, dubbed "The Greenhouse," was designed by architect William McDonough.
Mike Gordon is the bassist for Phish, and his face is featured on the cover of their 1996 album, "Billy Breathes."

So,
Herman Miller - "William" or "Bill" McDonough
Mike Gordon (*) - "Billy" Breathes
