2025 Softball

Opening day. Kennesaw St @ 3 & Tennessee at 6. This would seem like a scenario where you'd save Adams for game 2 & go with your #2 starter in the opener.
Looks like jalen first - probably a good idea. It looks like TN is #5, so might as well try to get a win while they can because they probably won't be competitive w/ TN

Looks like a nice start by Tretton. I don't know anything about her, was she well regarded?

Season is early but Iowa looks competitive so far. They lost a tough one against Missouri but they were in it the whole game. They are winning the games they should which is a huge plus. Coach Levin also seems to be playing the right players in the game. Not something Coach Gillespie seemed to do last season. I certainly hope Coach Gillespie is on the mend. But my honest opinion, these coaches so far are showing this team is better without her at the helm. They are maximizing the talent level we have and these women can compete. We just might surprise some folks. Go Hawks!

I hope you're right - I've seen this before though. Have a decent preseason and sub-.500 conference season......Including last year missing out on the Big10 tournament that was hosted in............*checks notes..............Iowa City.......

Iowa vs FIU in Miami on ESPN+ now. Iowa ties it 1-1 in the third on a rare RBI bunt double. Bases loaded one out…

EDIT: 4-1 Hawks after 3 1/2…

And it ends that way. Jalen Adams with zero earned runs, even throwing a strike to first which was dropped and allowed the only run on a runner rounding third. 🤷

7 errors in the two games against FIU🤯. I guess the positive is they still won. 5 games next weekend in Fayetteville.

Iowa splits again. 5-4 win over Mizz State. 3 errors to lead off the 7th to make the game dicey. 12-0 run rule for Ark in the nightcap. Very curious Jalen did not throw either game against Arkansas.

Guessing they are throwing her in games they think they have an actual chance of winning? They aren't likely to compete w the ranked teams so why burn her up throwing those 'empty' innings?......thats my theory anyway.....would like to hear your thoughts....

Welp..... Boy and girls..... What we have here is a shit show!

In 3 months, I might have to write a book...

😞
The whole Gillespie thing is fishy based on what I've heard.....I have also heard stories about recruiting visits that aren't good.....it's been a soap opera and doesn't seem to be getting any better.......

We were talking about that (LinusPF and me) and we figured they were trying to rack up as many wins as possible. I think we could have beaten Missouri State with Trenton and it would be nice to see if Jalen could keep us in it against Arkansas, but I understand the theory. If we want any chances of making the NCAA we need a marquee win or two (I know that is a long shot). It'll be interesting to see who throws in the morning against Illinois. It does seem we will have to use Jalen a lot in B1G play.

My only assumption is that they are trying to get as many wins as possible now. I was looking forward to seeing Jay against Arkansas as well.

My guess is Jay will pitch against Illinois, since we don't play them in regular season. Tretton was unavailable yesterday, so that is why the pitching went as it did. I little more explainable with that info.

Nice to pick up a win over Illinois. 13-5 is about as good as I could have expected. Would be nice to pick up a win or two next weekend against Alabama and Louisiana.

I am a member on a different Hawkeye message board. I generally do not repeat any info that is being talked about over there on this forum but am going to break my rule. There is thread about softball. The word is Levin quit last night and Coach Gollan took over as coach of the team. This may just be rumor but that is the chatter over there.

That would be highly unusual if true, even more so given our record at this point is one of our best since coach Blevins "retired".

There is a Big Ten thread on the Ultimate College Softball board, no mention there.

If there's anything to it, you'd think it would come out in the media soon, even as low profile as Iowa Softball is.

Its in the Swarm Lounge which is a membership board. I don't have any connection to Iowa softball. Just a long time fan and poster on here. Just telling y'all what is being said on the other board.

Interim Head Softball quit last night. New Interim Coach takes over in middle of the tournament in Arkansas. What a mess

Sounds like he was having some issues prior to this. Evidently a couple girls took a knee for the anthem yesterday, he went off on them and quit. Coach Golan (sp?) now in charge

Levin was a 20-year military vet, so i can't imagine he is big on 'taking knees' during the anthem. Still no word from the U......

The original poster only posted those items, it’s possible they are a troll or made assumptions. The thread has spiraled into a mess, no longer talking about softball and the current team. If there is anything of substance I’ll post it.

Only having 1 coach would be difficult running drills. Sammy Diaz was at the Commerce tournament with the team so maybe she is helping out in some form.

I'm sure it will come out sooner rather than later, especially with a home game next week, but a lot of what was posted above is pretty close.

That is what I was referring to with my "shitshow" comment....

Not sure how you do it with 1 coach...

For a coach to quit mid-tournament there must have been a lot of drama. I would guess, possibly, the reason there has not been a press release yet is the Atl Dept is still investigating what happened and may be concerned about legal issues....just a guess.

The sh*t show is not with these players. They went out on a limb to support Leven as their interim coach when the original Head Coach went out on medical. He walked out on these women in the middle of a tournament, in another state. Veteran or not, he literally walked out because athletes chose to kneel for their own personal reasons. Have we not seen this expression of silent protest in years past at Iowa? That would be a resounding YES. A grown man who had an opportunity to lead by example, with empathy, and share his life experience walked out on his “troops”. Imagine the shock and horror for these athletes. Abandoned TWICE. The Administration is unfortunately showing this program how little value is placed on hiring strong leaders. They only fill holes instead of placing people who can genuinely make an impactful difference and culture change for this program. These women deserve better. Speechless.

Softball desperately needs their Dave Dilani figure.

I just read his Bio. Yes, we need a Dave or Davina (the female version). Never met him but I’m going to guess he’s a great soccer coach and his players love him. He’s probably tough but a great communicator so the team knows where they stand. He probably sets high expectations for his players while letting them know he believes in them. Maybe Dave can be part of the interview panel when the administration is seeking new softball coaches. One can only hope.

Couldn't have said it better! They deserve much better. And you guys only know the half of it.
