Early on in the recruiting process, running back Toren Young felt like he found a perfect fit in the University of Iowa. As he gets ready to report to campus, the Wisconsin native still feels that way and is anxious to begin his college career with the Hawkeyes. We caught up with 5-foot-11, 225-pound Young, who will wear #28 at Iowa, to talk about his upcoming freshman year and much more.

Q: When do you make the move to Iowa City this summer?

YOUNG: I move to Iowa City June 12.

Q: What are you looking forward to in starting workouts with the team?

YOUNG: Overall, just becoming a better player and being in the best shape of my life as well as training and competing with great athletes.

Q: What are your goals for your freshman year? Are you hoping to play or expecting to redshirt?

YOUNG: My goal for my freshman year is to earn a spot in the rotation and getting some carries.

Q: What will it mean to you to walk out of the tunnel at Kinnick Stadium for the first time?

YOUNG: It will mean the world to me. It's been my dream since I can remember to be able to play college football. I wasn't a highly recruited guy, but Iowa believed in me and for that every time I walk out that tunnel I will wear that uniform with pride and give literally everything I have. Iowa has one of the best coaching staffs and fan bases in the country and that's what they deserve every Saturday. I’ve got to sell out every time I hit that field.

Q: When you look back at everything, what was it about Iowa that made it the right place for you?

YOUNG: First off, the coaching staff. This staff is 100% real. They care and won't sugar coat things. They've stuck together through the good and bad. Secondly, the style of football at Iowa is the best fit in the country for me because it's hard-nosed, physical football and that's how I would describe myself. I’m a tough, physical guy who loves contact.

As a senior, Young finished with 304 carries for 2,569 yards and 28 touchdowns.
