Williams at the top
Nunge and Moss on the wings
Cook and Garza down low.

That’s a helluva lotta length to try to play around. Syracuse size. Swap Moss for Dailey if he has the defensive IQ.

And then Nunge, Cook and Garza hi-lo on the offensive end. Getting JBo, Baer and Moss potentially a breather.

We do use a 3-2, and a 2-3. And a 1-3-1. I haven't seen a box and one but why not! :D

Yes, we will need to play zone a lot to give our best players time on the court together. And get used to announcers talking about length, at length.

And the dirty trick is by playing big at times (whether JBo is in or not...we can and will be big at the other four spots) eventually our opponents are going to have to match up to us. When that happens the same bigs on our side that required a zone can now switch to man to man.

We're going to be a problem team to defend and since because our biggest weakness is probably going to be stopping penetration we might as well embrace the zone.

Syracuse (by reputation) is a good example.

Just a personal note. I was always a fan of the three guard offense and Fran's love of the long and lean guys took a couple seasons for me to get used to...

I still think he's projecting the kind of player he was onto his teams...but that's alright, turns out it works pretty well. Especially when running a motion offense that uses the pass to break defenses down.

I thought we would use it when we had outstanding length with White, Uthoff and Olaseni but we never really did. 3-2 is effective when you have big, tough interior defenders and the guys at the top understand rotation to not get killed on dump passes to the lane from the baseline.

Not sure our defense has that ability yet.

Interior D was obviously not great last year. Neither was perimeter D for that matter. I hope to see a lot less matador from every guy on the floor this year.
Lot of fouls to give among the bigs. No reason there should be as many easy layups.

With six players between 6-10 & 7-0, he should be able to play whatever defense he wants, in just about any situation.
