40 offensive points. 492 yards of offense. What should I complain about?

Not in a game that was already won. Should have put QB2 in when we were up by 30.
I kind of think both of you are right. Everybody probably needs the reps.

I wouldn't have minded seeing the #2 in there late, though. Cade looked healthy today, but I'm not confident it will last.

I guess my position is, whether we win or lose that game doesn’t necessarily reflect on how the season will go. We could lose and still have a special season. It’s a fvcking wildcard game.
I would be disappointed if both of our teams don't put down the big XII teams.

You could complain about the crucial first half penalties? They pretty much kept the final score under a million to zero.

Cade throwing off back foot is a problem with some of those floater deep balls, offense was decnt 2nd half first half was fugly
I’ve seen that too - my theory is that he’s afraid to put full weight on his front foot that has the injury for fear of getting rolled up on. Fine in drills and horizontal throws but put bodies coming at his front left leg and …..

Agree. There was zero reason not to put in Sullivan to get some reps (playing for a minute and a half at the end doesn’t count.

Today was the PERFECT opportunity.

In any case, that’s only a minor quibble. Great game!

Not sure you watched the same game I did.
I watched the Hawkeyes, not sure what you watched. The Oline was a big reason why we couldn't establish the run in the first half. They were also responsible for the hurry-ups on Cade's early passing, they wouldn't pick up the blitz. It wasn't until our WRs started making plays and Cade getting more accurate that they were able to both give Cade time and give some room for Kaleb Johnson. The amount of missed blocks was also very concerning. I suggest you re-watch the game and focus on the line.

The improvement of offense in the second half was a sum of many factors. I think the o line was serviceable. That’s all we need to be a playoff contender.

I was watching the halftime show guys talking about potentially pulling Cade. I was like, wtf? He clearly needed to settle down and was rusty AF for obvious reasons. I’m not saying I predicted the incredible second half, but I had a feeling we would be much better if Cade could settle down.
By halftime I was interested in seeing what Sullivan could do. But obviously you and the coaches made the right call.

If we're being completely honest, Cade still forced some throws into coverage. Fortunately, receivers bailed him out. Against a better secondary, those could be picks.

Otherwise, it was a good performance against an overmatched opponent.

I don't mind forcing some throws down field, IF we have receivers that he trusts to go up and get the ball in traffic.

The TD pass in the north endzone in the 3rd quarter, where he threw the WR open and the WR split the 2 defender's was a thing of beauty. I forget who the WR was, but you gotta let it fly sometimes.

Definitely nice to see us err on the side of "risk" in the "risk/reward" equation. But obviously easier to do that against Illinois State.....or as Dolph likes to call them, Northern Illinois.

Cade made strides and looked much more comfortable in the second half. He found a rhythm and had the O doing things they hadn’t for years. But when you’re are up 30, and he’s had a history of being dinged, why not get Sullivan a couple series to gain the same confidence and hopefully allow the game to slow down for him in case he’s needed?
