If only Dr. Tom could recruit the same quality of players that Raveling did. If so, Iowa could have had an amazing run while he was our coach. Lute got to a final four in 1980. But we also suffered some first round NCAA losses to Toledo and Idaho with Lute at the helm. George was the best recruiter but he never adjusted to Iowa City. I think you could make an argument that Ralph Miller may have been our best coach.

Iowa did not lose to Idaho in first round under Lute. Lost in second round to a 3 seeded Idaho team in overtime that was basically playing a home game and Idaho finished the year 27-3.

Lute, George, and Tom played a true home and home conference schedule every year. Fran's teams play an unbalanced schedule that can or cannot create a false sense of success. Lute and Tom had success in the NCAA Tournament and Fran- meh. In fact, the next Sweet 16 Fran coaches in will be his first.

Davis teams did not always play a balanced schedule. The last time Davis teams played a balanced schedule was 1991-92 season.
