A Little Love for Tony Perkins

Perkins, if game performance matters, EARNED a starting job last night. Everyone had a chance against the same competition, and Perkins showed up in every facet of the game. His group stopped the bleeding and kept Iowa from an embarrassing loss last night. Those five, in fact, deserve to start the next game, and they absolutely should.

Not gonna happen. The starters outside of Keegan and Filip in the second half didn't have it last night. It's a good thing to have depth that can come in and pick your team up on defense. Joe T, JBO and Patrick will be fine.

Both Perkins and Ulis had some serious accolades in HS so you just know they have an offensive side to them. It is slowly being displayed. Hopefully they will both keep expanding on this side of their game and paired with their defense will make them valuable players for the next three years.

It looks like he got taller. I think he starts before the end of the season

So you bench the Big Ten and Iowa's career 3 point leader, and your schools assist and free throw leader for a kid that has had one good offensive game? Getting a little over the skis on that one.

If his offense continues to improve Tony's minutes will climb because he is already a good defender and getting better by the game. Since we have the best shooter and passer in school history on the roster I'm thinking 99% of all coaches start the historically best shooter and "shooting" guard.

I think we're going to have a very good starter for the next two seasons if Tony continues to improve.

That’s not how it works. And for good reason. You don’t mess around with your starting lineup each time a bench player outperforms a starter in an individual game.

A larger sample size….maybe.

I was left wondering after the first two games what role Tony would have on this team. He looks and plays like an energy guy to me. Perfect for a 6th man type role. At least in this year’s team.

I thought Tony and Ulis both had solid games. My problem was with the starters (except for Keegan who was amazing)

Surprised with how athletic he was last night. he got up a couple of times - didnt know he had that.
Oh he's definitely shown that explosiveness before, it's just been in limited minutes, but he can most definitely attack the rim given the opportunity. He's got some serious hops.

I'm amazed at how fast and fluid Keegan is around the rim too. He makes it look easy but he gets up there fast and doesn't look like he's really putting much effort into it. Crazy good hops.

Perkins is a scorer. He's not a great shooter but he will be able to give some offense off the bench. That will be needed this year when the 3-pointers aren't falling.

Hes not a great shooter but he's not a bad shooter either.

Hes plenty good enough to keep the defense honest.

Best guard at attacking the rim, (although Ulis is close), best finisher, decent shooter/ballhandler/passer best defender on the perimeter.

Kind of sounds like he's our best guard.

He might be the best all-around guard but he's not a point guard. You can see by watching the Bulls what a pass first point guard means to a team. He gets the ball to scorers. Just my opinion but I think his ability to score off the bench is more important to the team this year.

I was not impressed with Perkins last year or the first couple of games this year. But the last 2 games his shot has shown up and if he continues this streak, I am on board.

I agree not a pg.

Got tired on forgot to bring back some love for Tony. The kid has played pretty good ball right now.

Let the defenders chase Jordan around for the first eight minutes and then sic Tony on either a tired starter or an inferior substitute. Keegan, Patrick and Tony have already shown some pretty impressive dunks.

Still think we're going to the NCAA. More confident after last night than before the game.
