  • Andrew Serrano's family is suing a Massachusetts funeral home, The Eagle-Tribune reported.
  • The lawsuit said a strap broke and Serrano's body fell out, "oozing liquid," the report said.
  • Family members saw it happen and "became visibly distraught and hysterical," the lawsuit said.

My old lab was next to the old uihc autopsy "suite." Many times we'd have outside funeral homes who mistook us for the morgue and wanted to know where we'd like the body left. Few times they'd drip yummy embalming juice. Formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde, it's all good.

And the presiding priest was overheard saying,

"In the name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And into the hole he goes!"

Several years ago there was a huge explosion at the BP plant in Texas City. There was a large funeral going on at a church near the plant when the explosion occurred. Shoot the building and knocked the casket over and the body rolled out onto the floor in front of the widow and family... true f-ing story.

Somewhat related, and a nod to the birthday of the USMC two days ago, I have mentioned my friend who is a retired gunnery sergeant on HROT before. He told me a story one time about being called for funeral duty in Virginia. The Marine being buried weighed 350 or so, and they were struggling with the load as they crossed an uneven path in the cemetery. Several of the young Marines with him were grumbling under their breath about the load and he said he snapped at them, but in a controlled, muted way so none of the mourners would catch on. The young Marines tightened up and they proceeded to a spot where they had to cross a low spot by walking across some boards, with about an 18 inch drop to a gully below the boards. He said those boards started to creak and groan as they crossed and all he could think of was, “I’d better not fall you fat SOB”.

It's truly heartbreaking to hear about such a distressing experience for Andrew Serrano's family during what should have been a solemn occasion. The emotional impact of such an incident must have been profound. It highlights the importance of ensuring proper procedures and equipment are in place to prevent such mishaps. On a different note, navigating the arrangements for funerals can indeed be overwhelming. If you're looking for more information on affordable options like low-priced caskets, you can find more info through online resources that might provide helpful insights and options to consider.

I’m thinking the casket manufacturer is probably more responsible for that failure than the funeral home.

Was Mr Serrano a man of larger carriage? Three bills or more?
I distinctly remember as a child reading about the world’s fattest man being buried in a piano case.
I do wonder if that’s becoming more common.
