Just a little thing I'd like to share... My grandson has been a patient at UIHC for the last week. Today, a coach and two players stopped by his room. You should have seen the smile.

A special thanks to Brian F for helping to arrange the visit. Made his day.:)

I know things like this happen other places, but our family REALLY appreciated them taking the time from their schedule to do this.

I just got the pic sent to me. The coach was Coach Binns. He invited him to get a personal tour at the football facility. I think he'll take him up on the offer.

As far as the players... I don't recognize them, but I'll find out.

Edit: Cole Croston and Cedric Lattimore. Hope I didn't butcher their names:p

Thanks for sharing Mitch. All our best to your grandson and your family.
(How old is the boy?)

Coach Binns is one great person. I'm sure he had a wonderful visit. Couldn't have asked for a nicer person.

Guys, thanks for all the kind words and good wishes.

He was just released from UIHC and will spend a long time recuperating. It was a bit hairy for a while.

Go Hawks!

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I really love about this staff is that they do things like this all the time and do not make a big media frenzy about it. Many schools do this, but make sure their are cameras around to capture it. The players and staff do this because it is the right thing to do and not because they are looking for publicity
I taught in the Des Moines area a few years ago and we had young man that Kirk Ferentz would personally come visit from time to time and not once did it get any publicity. He just did it because the young man had some really unfortunate health problems and he was a big hawkeye fan. I always admired that

Thanks for the story Mitch. It's always great to hear stories like this, it restores my faith in humanity. It seems like the media loves to put out the bad stories of shootings and football players abusing their spouses and such.

ESPN is the worst, I wish they'd air a story like this to even things out. Most of The younger players watch this crap and see themselves lumped in with The bad, it's not the case. The majority isn't the bad, it's the good.

Glad your grandson is doing better and I hope he has a speedy recovery. God Bless.

Thanks for sharing your story, Mitch. They truly work miracles there every single day.
