I remember early in the recruiting process thinking that Tyler Beard was a really interesting prospect that Iowa had good traction with....Chicago PG that was supposed to be really talented and a pretty high level recruit. For some reason the relationship between him and Iowa just wasn't taking off. Iowa was showing interest, or at least was listed as a possible suitor.

Again, early in the process....there was no mention of him. As time went along Beard is still out there and not committing to anyone and the Ulis name comes up. Unranked kid not a lot of high level interest.

So we all know how the rest of the Ulis story unfolds. In just checking the 2020 top 150 rankings I see that Ulis is ranked number 141 and Beard is at 147..

Just another lesson for me on how recruiting and rankings are fluid and certainly no the final word.

The other interesting part of that: It shows Beard is committed to Georgetown as of 01/28/2020 and it seems like we have crossed paths with them on some recruits at least a couple times now. Not a school I would normally think of when competing for recruits.

This article/info is from the end of his junior year about the Indiana v Kentucky All Star game:

The show, however, came in the final minute when Lawrence North’s Tony Perkins got open space in the backcourt and put down a pair of dunks that scattered his teammates from the bench and left the fans in awe.

On emphatic dunk number one, Perkins attacked the hoop from the left side, slammed the ball on the ground and finished on the hoop. On the next possession, all that stood between him and the rim was Kentucky’s 6-foot-8 Ksuan Casey. But as Perkins came down the court, Casey stepped to the side and let him throw down a windmill dunk, putting the exclamation point on a dominant night for Indiana.

“The plan was for me to get a between the legs (dunk) in the game, they kept telling me ‘get it, get it, get it,’” Perkins said. “… It was pretty fun and let me know my teammates were excited for me.”

Perkins finished with 22 points, matching a game high with teammate Tre Coleman of Jeffersonville. Six players put up double-digits with Dre Davis scoring 19, Jaden Ivey with 18, Charlie Yoder with 14 and Trey Galloway with 10.
