About That Popular Vote...

It isn't meant to be. It balances the republic and that is what makes the EC great.
It should be, that would make us exceptional and just. We don't need to balance ourselves with slavers any longer. Time to fulfill our promise and finally become one nation of equal people.

Sorry...it's the tie breaker by not being the tie breaker.

If a CA resident kills you, it would be justified by this position you adopted. You are advocating their enslavement. It's a deplorable position that needs to be called out in the most severe terms.

You used to be kind of normal.

Well Cali wants to leave the union now (like those stupid Texans) so I am not sure democrats should be for this.
That sounds like you agree with me. Go ahead. Admit you're for an equal vote for all in national elections.

I am not bc I understand how it has the potential to create an imbalance of power that our founders didn't want to have happen. I agree w them as I can see how it would tilt the allocation of resources to our major cities and high population states and that would create weakness in our union.

The slaves gave their states a lot of electoral votes too. Fix your thinking. Every person should get an equal vote.

They already do. Among their peers.....the fellow citizens of their state AND the electoral votes each state receives is indicative of their population.

There is nothing wrong with the system. If Hillary hadn't slacked the iron belt states which she assumed would go D as they typically have in the past she would have won.

Don't blame the electoral college for losing the election for Hillary......blame Hillary. There are reports floating that even Bill told her she was playing with fire and needed to lock down those states. Since he went 2-0 in POTUS elections maybe she should have listened to an old pro at this.

You can't actually make that case. The Presidency doesn't work as you suggest. You are simply being dishonest and working for chaos by supporting illegitimate government. That's deplorable.

When you need to qualify your point, you lose. You are deplorable too.

I'm correct.

Hillary blew it.....plain and simple. Either:

A. Her body really wasn't up to the task and she had to come off the trail in the homestretch when it mattered.

B. Her strategy of coming off the trail and going mute (no press conferences) while Don revved up his rhetoric bit her square in the a$$. Even if what he was slinging was crap at least he was out there fighting for a win.....not silently waiting on the sidelines.

Either way.. keep on blaming the electoral college for her loss instead of learning from her mistakes and see where that gets you.

Just so we are clear, I'm blaming you. Don't try to hide. The deplorables are to blame. I'm here to rub your face in your crap.

Can't wait to see how wound up you'll be when Pence takes office. All the lube in the world won't fix your butthurt then :p

Good lube will do that for you. Let your eyes roll back in your skull and make a mess.

Iowa's play w/o Peter Jok is what is doing it. The young kids don't just get to stand around and watch him play and it has made them all better. If they keep it up when he gets back they will be dangerous down the stretch.

NCCA run, nope, not without winning the BTT but this program is gonna be rocking in the coming years.

Since the day after the election. Trumps antics already will make this a sooner thing that later.
I think such a scenario favors my interests in 2020. But don't let me get in the way of blowing up your team.

Well and when people WANT to see Hitler they see Hitler. Just like when people wanted to see Muslim Socialist from Kenya they saw Muslim Socialist from Kenya. I'll be shocked if Trump makes it through the year alive, democrats have lost their mind and have checked civility and any though of right and wrong at the door.

All of the people above are what is wrong w our country.

Why yes...yes, I do. It generally means raising taxes and/or cutting spending. What do you think it means?

According to The Financial Times:

Definition of austerity measure:

Austerity measures refer to official actions taken by the government, during a period of adverse economic conditions, to reduce its budget deficit using a combination of spending cuts or tax rises.

Feel free to argue with them.
Economists. What do they know? I shouldn't have to explain this to you, but here goes:

Austerity is when those measures have a negative impact on the well-being of the poor, selected demographics (such as minorities) and even ordinary citizens.

Just cutting spending or raising taxes does not necessarily produce those results. For example, when people like Bernie and Lizzie advocate for raising taxes to help pay for universal health care or to relieve the burden of high interest on student loans, or when they want to cut defense spending by reducing the number of bases or eliminating cost overruns, those are NOT austerity measures.

Nor are raising taxes and cutting spending the only ways to produce austerity. Privatizing parts of the safety net or education, or reducing environmental or labor protections can also be austerity measures.

What bothers me about so many of my liberal friends on this board - and I consider you among them - is that you seem to have forgotten your liberal principles, and analytic skills in the 2016 campaign. I hope you recover soon.

A good argument can be made that the GOP will let Trump do the distasteful things that they really want but don't want their fingerprints on. Then they will oust him. That way they get the programs they want but won't get blamed for them. Yet, strangely, they won't undo them.

The only thing the GOP doesn't like so far is Trump's cancellation of the TPP. But they can revive that when he's gone.

If Trump is smart, he won't do ALL the awful things so quickly. But he doesn't seem to feel the danger.

I wonder whose side Bannon is really on. I'm guessing he's pushing Trump to move with speed. But is that because he's a believer or because he wants to hurry up and get to the point were Trump can be discarded?

^^^^^^^^^^^Bingo. The Rs can sit back polishing their halos while Trump is the hatchet guy.

Trump has absolutely no concerns with being the villain, in fact I think he embraces that role.

Say what? Austerity measures are austerity measures. Their EFFECT has nothing to do with what they are. Can you post a link to this "definition"?

"...during a period of adverse economic conditions." These measures are specifically designed for those kinds of conditions and Stein was proposing they be used in place of QE...which makes them, by definition, austerity measures.
Nor are raising taxes and cutting spending the only ways to produce austerity. Privatizing parts of the safety net or education, or reducing environmental or labor protections can also be austerity measures.
If they are an effort to cut spending and are meant to address adverse economic conditions...they fit the definition.

If your liberal principles are going to lead you off a cliff...you should probably turn away. Too many "liberals" ran straight off the cliff like lemmings in pursuit of the "perfect"...that notorious enemy of the good. They - you? - own Trump just as much as the people who voted for him.

Your wing picked the losing candidate that gave us Trump. You could have done better.

No point arguing the austerity issue with you any further, since you are sticking with your misguided definition. I explained it. Either you get it or you don't.

LOL...as I said, I supported Sanders but I wasn't going to vote for Trump as you apparently did. And it's not my definition. It's the definition used by economists unless you can point to some legit site that uses what you posted.

Either you get it or you don't. My guess is, you get it but can't admit it.

As the Antichrist would, wouldn't he?

Hmmmm.

If you want to see Hitler (or the Antichrist) you will see Hitler, just as those who wanted to see Obama as a Muslim Socialist from Kenya saw him that way.

I just think Trump is a blowhard bully and I think he is helping us down the line, not by his policy but I believe his actions will cause those on the left and right who have been running in opposite directions to meet back up in the middle. Trump is necessary evil from a political system that has become poisoned via the media and its two parties.

Americans may be freaking out now but eventually they will come back together, they just needed a little push (Trump is that push).

So you think the reason why some people think Trump is bad is because they WANT to think he is bad? NOTHING to do with his behavior or policies?

I guess if you want to think reality works that way you will think reality works that way.

Come on, unIowa.
