March 11, 2025 update:

ORIGINAL POST:

Announced attendance: total tickets sold AND distributed.

Scanned tickets: the number who actually show up at Carver, get their tickets scanned at the entrance, and head to their seat.

The numbers are not good, obviously. Note, too, the drop in ticket revenue last year and this year.

If Beth is paying attention, she already has a few names on speed dial--DeVries and McCollom to name two. Attendance isn't going anywhere but down as long as Fran is here, and the money to renovate Carver ain't likely to come until he's gone either, so . . .

Time for Fran and family to head for Indy and enjoy retirement. And it's time for Iowa to breathe new life into an apathetic fan base and a mediocre program. IMHO, of course.

But, you're still going, right?

Nice.... They've almost shrunk it down far enough to just move games to Xtream arena. That place will be rocking.

Or is that not the goal?

Truly pathetic attendance in a 15,000 seat arena, but it's the only way that their might be a coaching change someday

Attendance is a tough enough sell for programs with a pulse. With a poor product on the floor and a disinterested coach who is essentially a lame duck, Iowa is handicapping themselves.
If for some reason Fran returns next season (which would be a very Iowa move) the actual in person, butts in seats, will be so low they may have to play simulated crowd noise during games.

I would be surprised if there is not a mutual agreement where Fran gets bought out, he shakes hands with Beth, and walks away.

Carver needs a refresh. The coaching staff and entire program needs a refresh.

Beth seems to be a silent assassin. You see her at events but she's not in front of a mic a lot like Gary was. And when a decision needs to be made (like getting rid of Brian Ferentz), she doesn't shy away from making it.

Anyone who is exactly the opposite of what Gary was, has my vote!!!

Upper division finishes though, what more do the fans want?
What a terrible article, not surprising from local writers
that's like football teams clinging to a consecutive bowl streak

we, as fans, should be celebrating in the streets when we finish in the top half the league.

I mean, at Iowa that is literally the best we can do anyway.

Tonight's (Wed Feb 19) game vs Oregon had a 7:30 pm CT tip.

The announced attendance (total tickets sold & distributed) was 8,728

The actual butts in the seats were a LOT less.

Sure looks like less than 5,000.... While the place is still packed for women's games.

When do we lower the curtains like they used to do for women's games?

Fans are completely done with Fran and the attendence is never coming back while he's here. A lot of lost revenue with that empty building.

10 minutes or so into the game, they should make a PA announcement to the fans that it's time to move, and instruct the ushers to move everyone to the middle of the court and closer to the floor. At least concentrate the 4,000 people who bothered to show up. I know it's silly, and probably not even workable, but the whole men's program, including the administration, is just one big ball of apathetic mess. Do something; literally and figuratively, don't stand there with your hands in your pockets and say, Well, this is the way it is. I guess they're just playing out the string.

Yeah, I think Beth has to pull the plug on Fran, even if she has to pay the full $4.2M buyout.

It's just weird to me that these recruits keep visiting; last night they had a 7'1 guy (class of 2025) making his 2nd visit to Iowa City. What is he being told about Fran's future?

Yeah, when its that empty, ushers shouldn't even question people coming down the middle of the arena and sitting in a huge section of empty seats

I’m going to be in town with a group of six for the weekend and have never been to a game in Carver (I go to a lot of wrestling matches) and just curious how much tickets are for Saturday’s game?

Currently on SeatGeek you can get a pair of primo seats for $60 each. Cheapest for six together is $25 each.

The optics are obviously embarrassing.

This season only 3 home games have surpassed 6,000 scanned tickets with only Iowa State & Wisconsin surpassing 8,000.

Note how the announced attendance for the following games is often up to 3 times higher than the actual butts in the seats.

Scanned..........................................Announced

2,695:

2,951:

3,146:
.........Rider..........................................7,851

Chad said Iowa State and Wisconsin fans were louder than the Iowa fans who showed up.

Not true for Wisconsin game, I was there. Iowa fans were louder.

* How many actual butts were in the seats, in your opinion? 10,000? 11,000? 12,000?

* When looking at the stands, was it an 80% Iowa/20% Wisconsin (red) fan split? Or something different?
