Can any recruiting beatniks give me more info on this kid? I'm hoping he is a legit 6'7 and maybe still growing - I like his frame and the fact he played football. Hoping he may be able to put on some weight and really be a steal at power forward starting in 2016-2017. Then again he may play this coming year????

I am really excited about this class. I know - no upper 4/5 rated players but it seems like some of the under-the-radar type of talent and I do think Fran knows talent. The Moss "summer breakout" video out there was pretty amazing - man I think that kid is going to be real good.

He and the 5* kid who is going to Duke (can't recall his name) were recently named players of the year for the city of Dayton so that's pretty cool

Unless Ahmad grows, I don't see him ever being a pure "4". He is 6-6 and not 6-8 or 6-4!...He is a great athlete, but he is not a huge wide body. He primarily plays facing the basket and is very well suited for fast break. I don't see him being a force on the block unless he changes many skill sets.

For those of you with DirectTV and sports package, his team may play on 662 @ 8:30 Eastern if they win on Friday night. Wayne is currently in the final 4 for large schools this weekend.

You got it.
Against most teams, 6'6"-6'8" and 225-245 will work well down low if they are built as solid as Dawson.

From the video on line of Wagner, he looks fairly sturdy. If he can come in at 225# or more next year I hope he can give some minutes down low.

I see on direct TV guide in Ohio they go by divisions anyone know what division Wagners school is in? Thanks

The guide shows no high school games on Friday night but it looks like a bunch of games on Sat. Just trying to find out what division so I can record it. Go Hawks!!!

Wagner's team (Huber Heights Wayne) is in Division 1 (largest class) in the state. Wayne is playing the same school in the semi's that they played in the state football championship (where he ran a kickoff back for a touchdown). Great athlete no doubt. Coincidentally, he is playing with two other Dayton recruits.

Luke Kennard's team lost in the state quarterfinals I believe....but he's going to be another baller for the Dukies.

It's Saturday @ 8:30 Eastern on channel 662 on Direct TV....that is assuming Wayne wins tomorrow against St. Eds. This is Ohio D1...Also, the Ohio D2 game has Dayton Dunbar who had the stud guard going to OSU next year. They are the team that knocked off Franklin, where Kennard, the Dukie played. That game is at 4:30 Eastern on 662.

Watching WSU their biggest Forward is 6-7. Also watching a lot of the tournament teams, I think there were more teams with guys 6-6 to 6-9 playing the post than there were with 7footers.

I just don't think you need to have a 7 footer in the college game. Yeah they help, but most of them are uncoordinated and take time to develop.

I can't wait to watch Wagner play, i watched that state final in football and it was a good game. I couldn't believe that Wagner was coming to Iowa for basketball, looked more like a solid football player. They said on the local news that Kentucky offered him and OSU, Michigan, PSU, and other Big Ten football schools were looking into him? Damn this kid must be an athlete.

Big difference between 6'6 225 and 6'8 245.

There's very few Dawsons out there. Lots of 6'7 undersized forwards in the mid majors though.

Big difference between 6'6 to 6'10 and 6'10 to 7ft. There aren't many 7fts around. But there's lots of good 6'10 guys and you really want atleast one guy that big to compete in the power conferences.

I live in the same small town as Ahmad. He is probably closer to 6'6", but he also happens to be a beast and we are lucky to have landed him.

Did I see correctly that he's from Huber Hts.? I lived there for a year when I was in the USAF.

He looks solid on the video. Not like most of the long, but thin recruits.
If he could be anything like Dawson for msu, who is listed at 6'6" and 225#, I'd be ecstatic to have him as a 4.

He goes to school in Huber Heights, but lives in a small town outside of Dayton. Open enrollment. He's going to be a good one.

Watched the game, Wagners team won the state title going away. They lead by double digits for most the game and the other team started to throw in some 3's towards the end.

I though Wagner played pretty good, got into foul trouble and had to sit for most of the game. He was matched up against a 6-8 sophomore. I didn't realize Wagner lead his team in PPG, Rebounds, and Blocked Shots? He is 6-6 and he is pretty athletic. I liked the fact when he had the ball out on the wing, he could put it on the floor and attack. If he can develop an outside shot he will almost become the next Dawson at MSU.

Loved how he battled for rebounds and the one time he took his man off the dribble and got called for a charge, but he was able to handle the ball and attack the rim.

I think he is gonna be a good one for the Hawks!

Wagner may be a much better player than I realized. Think about this: He is the best player on the state championship team (largest schools) in Ohio. I am not sure how he is not more highly rated. He is one of those guys who seemingly has a nose for the ball. If he doesn't get the rebound himself, he is poking it away or tipping it to a teammate. Has solid low post moves, and is very athletic. I imagine as a college freshman he is going to have trouble not fouling because he plays aggressively. He is really quick for a forward and gets off his feet in a hurry. He can take his man off the dribble. I think there is a chance he starts at Iowa...but he will have to beat out Dom Uhl. In the championship game he guarded a taller and heavier player and was very effective. I am pretty excited about this young man after seeing his championship game on tv. What a great get by Fran & Co. If this kid was committed to tOSU he would no doubt be rated much higher.

BINGO, because he is committed to Iowa, the scouts don't pay attention to him. If he was in the hunt for Kentucky/OSU/MSU he would automatically be rated a 4 star or higher. Because everyone knows those schools don't take anything less than a 4 star.

I agree he has a knack for the ball and is very tough in the low post. I think he will be a very good player for Iowa next year.

I don't know about Wagner but Olaseni and Ingram both dropped substantially on ESPN the day they each signed with Iowa. Of course scouts were thinking how good could they be and go to Iowa.

Obviously Iowa's record has improved substantially since those guys signed but we still get very little national respect or attention.

We really need Wagner or Hutton to be ready to play some pretty heavy minutes to be sure. Uthoff will never be a physical inside player, just not his game regardless of his height. Hawks need a physical inside player, like White, that gets all those garbage plays inside (like say, Aaron White) and, of rebounds. Of course, Woody could dominate inside like Bill Walton, but since that's unlikely, Hawks need another physical rebounder and defender inside.

I think that Wagnar is going to be like basabe/White were. I am not saying he is going to put up double double numbers, but he is a banger down low and always seems to be around the rim/ball. He seems like he has a high motor and I realize he is 6-6, he plays much bigger. If he doesn't get the rebound he tries to tip it out or dive for it. He battled with a much bigger 6-8 player last night, I think the kid was like 6-8 260 and Wagnar held his own.

I agree with the poster above who said that Wagnar might get into foul trouble a lot as a freshman, as he is very physical. I think it will hurt him at times, but I think he will be a solid off the bench player. Hawks definitely got a steal in him.

Do remember too he was a wr on a good football team. He has speed and ups. I thought, though, that the pg on his team was a McD 5* headed for KY or OSU?

Sorry but I can't seem to remember Dawson being much of a shooter, just a banger and garbage man. Anyone have any idea what Dawson was rated coming out of high school? I know he led the B1G in rebounding but he's kind of been viewed as an underachiever, right? Not saying he's a bum, just that MSU fans expected more from him.

Per Rivals, Brandon Dawson was the #20 player in the country in 2011. I remember he had some injury issues in his MSU career, but have to think he was expected to grow in height or have a better outside shot.

The thing I like most about him will probably seem silly.
"This zone a killer!", That was Wagner's tweet while watching Iowa beat Michigan. This high school kid isn't talking about a dunk, or a steal or blocked shot. He's excited over how well Iowa is playing a zone! When I read that I was glad we had us a Hawkeye.
