I don't think anyone with a brain has ever said that Fran doesn't do due diligence in recruiting or make max effort. There is a difference between that and getting highly ranked guys to come to Iowa. Fran has a track record of identifying guys very early who then end up getting a slew of big offers. He can recognize talent.
Totally agree. I just wish he had someone on the staff that could convince these kids that Iowa is truly a great landing spot for them, instead of watching them all traipse off to whatever blueblood wiggles their fingers at them.

Fran has always pursued highly rated players. Just usually never gets them because I'm sure most of the time their families get money from other places.

Lazy, no way.
All that matters is landing kids. Moral victories in recruiting (Tyler Ulis) are dumb.
And in the process of “landing kids” you pretty much have to get them to visit.
Obviously that's the first step but I don't think he gets much credit for getting a bunch of highly rated kids on campus and whiffing on all of them.
Garza, Cook, and Gessell were all highly rated and highly recruited out of state kids. Woodbury and Jok were Iowa kids (very highly rated) who were recruited by schools like North Carolina (Roy noted for being a great recruiter) and Wisconsin for Jok.......
Lets face it. Kansas, Kentucky, and Auburn (some of the schools we are & have competed against for recruits) are led by shady head coaches. Kansas & Auburn have been mentioned in the Adidas/FBI investigation. Bill Self has been charged with THREE Level I NCAA violations as a result of the Adidas scandal and what does Kansas do? They reward him with a lifetime contract. So, its not like Iowa has ever been playing on a level playing field when it comes to recruiting.
And the competition now for these top 2022 prospects is tough. There can only be one 1 winner for each prospect so the head coaches who don't land that particular prospect are losers, lazy, bad recruiters, or all of the above? Of course not. But some, for some reason, want to label Fran that way.

And Jok didn't have a Wisconsin offer and wasn't highly recruited after his injury.
Although 3 out of state clearly isn’t what most every Hawk fan wants....the point is the “whiffing on all of them” comment you made is false.....I just think that your perspective might be overly harsh (based on your comments) and thought I would provide the information to hopefully offset the negative slant.

The whiffing on all of them was talking about this year's visitors. He doesn't deserve credit if he gets this talent on campus and doesn't get a signed LOI from any of them.
Not even a good try....no where did you mention just “this year’s visitors”....in fact in the discussion you made reference to Ulis... Bottom line, you’re looking at this through a negative lens. So be it, you aren’t the only one.

As with most topics, multiple things can be true at once. I think Fran is great at recognizing talent and it appears he puts in the time in recruiting guys. It is also true that Iowa does not close the deal very well on out of state highly ranked players that other teams want too. Yes, he does a real good job with under the radar guys. But among the reasons Iowa hasn't made it past the first weekend in the NCAA tournament under Fran is recruiting. It all matters. Do I believe that Iowa has lost out on players because Iowa won't blur the lines or do the things that other schools will do? But I don't believe that is the case with every player.
When it comes to recruiting, it's nice to be in the mix for a bunch of good players. It also doesn't really matter if you don't get any of them.
I don’t disagree.... I think that’s pretty realistic. But when comments go to the extreme of implying never landing those recruits, that’s not realistic.
The other thing that Fran has done in recruiting is landing high character guys....seldom gets the credit he deserves. In fact, I think he has done so well in that area that most people take it for granted.

And then trying to backpedal and say the "whiffing on all of them" comment was in regards to this year's visitors is, as @perryhawk stated, not even a good try because no where did you mention just “this year’s visitors,” because you had referenced Tyler Ulis.

Yep, Luka has raised the perception of the program in the eyes of the potential recruits. Fran needs to strike while the iron is hot.
I don't believe I said anything about offering any illegal inducements to these recruits, nor was I implying it. I take pride in the fact that Iowa is considered to be NCAA compliant. I just meant someone with a closer's mentality, that could convince these recruits that Iowa was the perfect spot for them both scholastically and athletically.

But, as @perryhawk and @silasstarr have shown, sometimes it's impossible to ignore the dumb things you type, where instead of just ignoring your dumb posts, they feel they have to respond.
