But I thought Fran doesn’t recruit well. Or doesn’t try. This is the most talent taking officials in the same month to Iowa for basketball that I can remember for quite a few years.

It’s got to be the Garza effect. Hope we can close the deal. This is the most talent taking officials in the same month to Iowa for basketball that I can remember for quite a few years.

Some say that he's lazy...But I thought Fran doesn’t recruit well. Or doesn’t try.
It makes Fran appear to be a lazy recruiter. Another poster suggested International recruits and that idea would be brilliant. Look at the NBA in the past 5-10 years there are many more international players. Gonzaga Creighton even Duke recruit very good internationally. Why not Iowa? It's part of the issue I have with Mcaffery it appears that the Iowa staff is not near as aggressive in recruiting as many top teams. On the outside it appears to be lazy recruiting. Why wouldn't Iowa be a player on the International scene since we continually hear how tough it is to get recruits to consider Iowa due to culture and climate, etc.
At least he’s attempting to right the ship by trading up for an experienced, athletic black QB this time! Fran had scholarships to give and he couldn’t find 1 damn better guard than Ash snd Jordan??? LAZY Mo fo!! I’m so pi$$ed!
Maybe "lazy" isn't the right word for it, but he's not particularly talented at it.
But I thought Fran doesn’t recruit well. Or doesn’t try.
Totally agree. I just wish he had someone on the staff that could convince these kids that Iowa is truly a great landing spot for them, instead of watching them all traipse off to whatever blueblood wiggles their fingers at them.I don't think anyone with a brain has ever said that Fran doesn't do due diligence in recruiting or make max effort. There is a difference between that and getting highly ranked guys to come to Iowa. Fran has a track record of identifying guys very early who then end up getting a slew of big offers. He can recognize talent.
Yep. People have a very short or no memory about this stuff.I don't think anyone with a brain has ever said that Fran doesn't do due diligence in recruiting or make max effort. I do.You think getting kids to visit means Fran is a good recruiter?
Do you think it means he’s a bad/lazy recruiter? You think getting kids to visit means Fran is a good recruiter?
Do you think it means he’s a bad/lazy recruiter?
And in the process of “landing kids” you pretty much have to get them to visit.Lazy, no way.
All that matters is landing kids. Moral victories in recruiting (Tyler Ulis) are dumb.
And in the process of “landing kids” you pretty much have to get them to visit.
Garza, Cook, and Gessell were all highly rated and highly recruited out of state kids. Woodbury and Jok were Iowa kids (very highly rated) who were recruited by schools like North Carolina (Roy noted for being a great recruiter) and Wisconsin for Jok.......Obviously that's the first step but I don't think he gets much credit for getting a bunch of highly rated kids on campus and whiffing on all of them.

Fran has always pursued highly rated players. Just usually never gets them because I'm sure most of the time their families get money from other places.

So, Fran needs a bag man, who can entice the kids to come to Iowa.Totally agree. I just wish he had someone on the staff that could convince these kids that Iowa is truly a great landing spot for them, instead of watching them all traipse off to whatever blueblood wiggles their fingers at them.

Although 3 out of state clearly isn’t what most every Hawk fan wants....the point is the “whiffing on all of them” comment you made is false.....I just think that your perspective might be overly harsh (based on your comments) and thought I would provide the information to hopefully offset the negative slant.
All that said, I want Fran and staff to sign more high level talent to improve the success of our program....I just like the perspective to be realistic.
Not even a good try....no where did you mention just “this year’s visitors”....in fact in the discussion you made reference to Ulis... Bottom line, you’re looking at this through a negative lens. So be it, you aren’t the only one.The whiffing on all of them was talking about this year's visitors. He doesn't deserve credit if he gets this talent on campus and doesn't get a signed LOI from any of them.
So you are preemptively bitching about an outcome that hasn’t happened yet.The whiffing on all of them was talking about this year's visitors. He doesn't deserve credit if he gets this talent on campus and doesn't get a signed LOI from any of them.
As with most topics, multiple things can be true at once. I think Fran is great at recognizing talent and it appears he puts in the time in recruiting guys. It is also true that Iowa does not close the deal very well on out of state highly ranked players that other teams want too. Yes, he does a real good job with under the radar guys. But among the reasons Iowa hasn't made it past the first weekend in the NCAA tournament under Fran is recruiting. It all matters. Do I believe that Iowa has lost out on players because Iowa won't blur the lines or do the things that other schools will do? But I don't believe that is the case with every player. Not even a good try....no where did you mention just “this year’s visitors”....in fact in the discussion you made reference to Ulis... I don’t disagree.... I think that’s pretty realistic. But when comments go to the extreme of implying never landing those recruits, that’s not realistic. As with most topics, multiple things can be true at once. When it comes to recruiting, it's nice to be in the mix for a bunch of good players. It also doesn't really matter if you don't get any of them.
So you are preemptively bitching about an outcome that hasn’t happened yet.

Not at all, buddy boy.
Simply saying let's not crown Fran a great recruiter simply for getting guys to visit.
@perryhawk is correct. Your “whiffing on all of them” comment is false. Fran hasn't landed 100% of his targets, but he sure as hell is not 0%, either. But you have a history of making a lot of stupid, false statements, so at least you are consistent and we know what to expect.
And then trying to backpedal and say the "whiffing on all of them" comment was in regards to this year's visitors is, as @perryhawk stated, not even a good try because no where did you mention just “this year’s visitors,” because you had referenced Tyler Ulis.
And @silasstarr is also correct in calling you out for preemptively bitching about an outcome that hasn’t happened yet. Of course, as everyone can see, you falsely denied that, too.
Yep, Luka has raised the perception of the program in the eyes of the potential recruits. Fran needs to strike while the iron is hot. It’s got to be the Garza effect. Hope we can close the deal.
I don't believe I said anything about offering any illegal inducements to these recruits, nor was I implying it. I take pride in the fact that Iowa is considered to be NCAA compliant. I just meant someone with a closer's mentality, that could convince these recruits that Iowa was the perfect spot for them both scholastically and athletically. So, Fran needs a bag man, who can entice the kids to come to Iowa.

I thought you had me on ignore?
It’s not an excuse, Money talks. This
Someone under 50 that can recruit like crazy would be perfect.
The excuse that anyone that gets 4 and 5 stars regularly is cheating is tired and pathetic.
I assume that every 5 star and most 4 stars require money in exchange for their commitment. This

Wrong again.
I did say, however, that we should all ignore trolls / fools like you.
Do you get anything right?
Ironically, name the topic, and you are “whiffing on all of them.” Name the glue when you were a child, and you were probably “whiffing on all of them.”
Meanwhile, Fran, when it comes to recruiting, has not been “whiffing on all of them” in the past and he won't be “whiffing on all of them” in the future, either.
Why don't you just ignore the troll like the rest of us.
That's not what you said.

Was not meant to be a serious comment about Iowa recruiting or you. Mostly, a jab at the programs who seem to "steal" recruits that Fran was in on from early in their recruiting. A big part of why I like Iowa sports is the lack of dishonesty, cutting corners, and under-the-table stuff, which you see in many of the otherI don't believe I said anything about offering any illegal inducements to these recruits, nor was I implying it.
