Is Fran and his staff going after this kid at all? I know were at a bit of a log jam in terms of scholarships and his dad coaches at UNI but we haven't even offered him. Anyone know the deal?

They don't have room for him. Not much more to it than that. They still need someone else to leave to have room for Connor.

He is really good though and keeps getting better. Will be interesting to see if ISU can get him away from UNI.

I certainly don't know the deal, but the more I look at future scholarships the more I think (and this is a bit of a change of mind on my part) unless we can get commits from kids that just want to be Hawkeyes and are willing to wait their turn? Anybody else we get in 2018, even if two people transfer and we even have a scholarship to offer? I just don't see room for them to play right away and that is a problem when attracting talent.

In fact, for the two spots (at least) open for 2019? I hope we get a point guard willing to redshirt a year, and a power forward incase Cook goes pro after his junior season.

We're just so deep for the next three years! Of course things change, but right now, if I'm a 2018 point guard I know I'd be backing up at least Bohannon for two years. That doesn't make for much to offer a kid.

Although Green can play both guard spots.

AJ Green has had a really good summer against some high level competition. Not sure has really offered him so far, but that list is growing.

I doubt he ends up at Iowa, Iowa St or UNI.

Obviously won't be at Iowa but why not the other two?

I don't see why top level recruits wouldn't be interested in Iowa. Log Jam?? Please! competition! If you're the real deal anybody's spot can be altered... now I don't see Green pushing the current guards but there are kids out there can..

I don't want anybody to leave just for leavings sake. But if Andrew Francis wants to be upwardly mobile, someday he is going to have to take a Head Coaching gig somewhere. And if Green's Dad wants to see his career go up, being an assistant at a Big Ten school is a good move from a Mid-Major. But time is running out, and I think that is the best way AC Green gets a Big Ten scholarship.

Advantage us in that he can back up Bohannon until JBo is done, and he are won't transfer. Advantage him and his dad catching one of the few rings on the carousel that Iowa Basketball is going to be riding on!

Hell of a player in his day, but has used up his eligibility.

Someone had to do it:D

I am definitely no insider, but I think UNI has a better chance over IS.

Prohm and his staff havent shown any type of recruiting ability in the state.

He will probably choose a school at a higher level than a MVC school.

Now you're sounding like you want to Crean... For years, Iowa and its fans have prided the fact that we appreciate our players and despised Crean/Indiana's approach to over recruiting. Forcing kids out of their scholarship is just a bad practice, especially for a team that doesn't have the history that a team like Indiana has. We'd be sacrificing some future prospects for current prospects.

No don't wanna kids forced out but if he gets beat out that's a different story all together...

+1. We don't need to Crean. Turned out great for Crean anyway. :) If asking Christian Williams to be patient, meaning we might have an opening, wasn't enough to show we don't Crean? Now we've got a coach's son walking on and redshirting, a four star player at a position many of us worry about depth, while we debate the possible ways Uhl and Wagner might even see playing time! And at least part of the reason is so he can play baseball!

This fits the "family" thing we've got going on that everybody from former players, recruits, and even guys who do transfer rave about.

When McCaffery first arrived, he made a statement that he was going to do things, "the right way". I think he's kept his word. And it shows in the kind of young men we are landing.

I don't know if any of this ends up winning more games for Iowa, but it dang sure means when we win we can look in the mirror afterwards.

Rivals has him as #92 player in the nation right now. Wonder if any other big name schools besides ISU will make a push for him. Rivals only list Nebraska and Minnesota as the only other 2 so far.

Top 100...I would suspect that if Iowa had a scholarship available the offer would be there.

Yet at the same time I'm just as intrigued he hasn't committed to play at UNI where his Dad coaches.

Sounds like his dad has told him to look around and has helped him with the recruiting process. Green has said he doesn't feel pressured to pick UNI. Although, I imagine this is similar to Pat but to a lesser degree. I think the best chance of Green going somewhere else is ISU but still think that is a long shot.

Would I trade Williams or even Dailey for Green with 4 years of eligibility? Yes. Is Fran going to Crean anyone to make it happen? No

Similar to Doug McDermott not wanting to play at ISU for his father? Is father/coach due for any HC offers in next couple years that could steer AJ away from UNI?

Just a thought......

Saw Green play in the PTL this past Sunday. He's very good and is going to be a high level guard. Is definitely worthy of a scholarship from Iowa, but, as mentioned, there's no room.

If he doesn't get an offer he likes, maybe, just maybe, he'd be willing to walk on at Iowa. He knows there's playing time available for his position. He might be willing to walk on if Fran tells him that he'll get a scholarship (if one opens up) before any of his son's get one.

My guess is we're going to see someone leave after this year.

Stop. There is a zero percent chance of this happening.

I'm not saying there's much of a chance or not, but I wouldn't say there's a zero chance. If he doesn't have a good feeling about Iowa, that's one thing. But if he wanted to play for Iowa, I think there's a chance someone leaves after this year. Not all of the big guys are going to be getting playing time. If Kreiner doesn't see decent playing time, I'm guessing we could see him leave. I wouldn't blame him either, he's a good player. Dailey could be another one if he doesn't get time.

Zero = zero Would need to have someone announce they are leaving soon for Green's chance of even being on scholarship at Iowa to be much above zero.

Would love to see him end up at UNI. Nothing wrong with strong Panther ball teams with talented Iowa kids.

To me, until Green commits or says he has no interest in Iowa, there's always a possibility. The only reason someone would need to announce they were leaving soon would be if Green was going to commit somewhere soon.

Looking at his offer list (assuming the site is correct), other than Minn and Ia St, it's not like he has big time offers. My guess is he's waiting to see what other offers he can get.

Pretty prominent HS coach in the state told me AJ won't even take Iowa's calls. This was last spring, so who knows

Schools laid off of him due to his dad being at UNI. Now, some have stepped up with offers and many more on the verge. He's played well this spring and at elite camps going against the best. He went from unranked to inside Top 100... and after July should have many other options to consider.

Interesting that Iowa was calling him in the spring. Good to hear that while some posters gave it zero chance because we didn't have a scholarship, our coaches didn't give up.

As far as having room, we don't even know for sure if Connor is going to end up playing basketball. He might be afraid his young bro will outshine him.
