So. Just HOW good are Day and Franklin

Because they aren’t PSU, tOSU, etc. you know, the blue bloods. Why did this turn so hard to comprehend? Those schools don’t have four and five star talent that are playing for play off positions every year like the big boys and if that isn’t happening, the AD doesn’t mess around and fire the HC and the staff.
Exactly. Thank you. And now we are getting to the point, aren't we. And guess what. Iowa isn't OSU, PSU, USC or Michigan either. In post #21 you stated "Iowa (Kirk) isn't willing to do whats necessary to win in todays landscape" What does willing have to do with it if your not going to attract that level of talent. In our peer group we've done pretty damn good. As I pointed out when this thread started Kirks probably done better against top 10 teams the either Day or Franklin. He's done more with less. Those guys win because their SCHOOLS tradition, cred, recruiting advantage, whatever allows them to recruit at a higher level year after year. Nothing more.....

You are arguing with yourself. I’m just stating Iowa isn’t willing to do whatever it takes like an Oregon to be a new era blue blood to compete with old school blue bloods. They could if they wanted to but KF wouldn’t want to do that. He is happy being little ole Iowa. Don’t want too many expectations. Just win enough.

Perfect example is KF could have had Kyle McCord at qb in the portal or Ty Thompson but he didn’t want them due to sticking with an injured Cade McNamara. KF could be competing against the big boys but he is so offensively illiterate in today’s game and what it takes to compete at the highest level.

i'm pretty sure kirk would school those guys IF he had equivalent talent. but fact of the matter is those guys can find and keep talented football players far far far far far far better than kirk ever has and recruiting is probably 75% of the job at least at those places.
Would KF recruit that talent or play the best talent?

Seriously. Your talking out of both sides of your mouth. One minute you say there's no reason to expect Illinois or Minn to become "new era Blue bloods" because they don't have the ability to recruit the kind of talent that "the blue bloods" do, and come back the next minute and say that Iowa should be able to compete if only Kirk wasn't so stubborn when he has no more access to top level talent then "the west division teams".

It is mostly Jimmies and Joes at the top 5-10 blue bloods because they get most every great player in their state and PA and Ohio have large populations.

I really think Kirk or Bret or Fitz would have won big time at those schools. Kirk's style run the ball, protect the ball, use a very good pro style passing game with maybe more emphasis on defense and special teams would have been great at Ohio St over 25 years. The question is would Ohio St fans wait for 5 or more years between nattys? I think Day's seasons are numbered at OSU, Penn ST would probably be stupid to get rid of Franklin right now.

Riley at USC is definitely hot seat as his supposed emphasis on defense hasnt really panned out, better but not great.

Ferentz's coaching style always reminded me of Tressel. Just that Tressel had a roster stocked with four & five star players.

KF had the opportunity to pick up top level qb’s after last season in McCord or Thompson to improve Iowa’s offense but didn’t. Top level programs do bring in those talents to keep improving is all I’m saying. And they replace their OC when warranted with offenses ranked at or near the bottom of every category on that side of the ball. But not KF, he put his son ahead of the program and would have run it back again this year. He wasted three years of elite defenses with his craptastic offenses. He is holding back the program from possibly being more competitive against blue bloods.

I'll just leave it here, but try to recognize how much you've moved from your original statement to your last one. In post #39 you said that "KF was not willing to do whats necessary to be AT THE BLUE BLOODS level and to STAY there". Now your saying he is holding Iowa back from "possibly be more competitive against blue bloods". I would agree with your last statement, but there's a BIG gap between that and being AT and staying AT the blue bloods level. Kirk had Iowa #8 -10 for three years in a row. Staying there especially in this new market is another thing...

He will probably search for another job before he gets fired. But I wish the d-bag would get fired.

Franklin is also unpopular with the administration and the fan base. He's a total arrogant asshole that can't afford a poor season.

Oh I agree. I was referring to the U of I leadership being all in for having a top tier football team every year. They are good with a team that is competitive every year vs being tOSU, Michigan, and to an extent PSU.
