All I keep hearing is Ohio State and Alabama. I'm sick of this crap, Alabama beat nobody this year. They played one less conference game then Ohio State.

My shouldnt Ohio State get in now? No! They deserve it over Alabama but as I said they dont belong either. You dont lose by 31 to a 7-5 team and get in.

I would put UCF in there, they are undefeated and I would love to see the commitee have some guts and give them a shot.

Ok, with all that said about deserving based on not having any losses I have to be honest and admit Ohio State is the most talented team. They have hosses and speed all over the field. They have two top ten teams and just pushed around the bullies of The BIG.

Now here is what will happen and Delaney is gonna be ticked. Two SEC teams are going to get in and that miserable looking Satan is going to get his way. Urban will pout and Ohio State fans are going to whine and complain about winning the conference and not getting in, hypocrites.

Freaking Bama and Bucknuts, the more things change the more they stay the same. The playoff was intended to fix the controversy. Good job guys.

It is funny the amount of time the mighty Nick Saban has taken to pot shot at Urban Meyer and that Iowa loss. Keep slinging boys, its the only benefit of this whole thing.

Why cant ESPN admit the SEC is garbage this year?

I get that UCF is undefeated, but who have they beat? South Florida and Memphis?

Bama and Wisconsin get ish for not playing anyone but yet UCF should now get in? Just doesn't seem quite right, especially with the defense they play. But that's just like, my opinion, man.

I would put USC in ahead of OSU, Bama, and UCF. But all of those teams will get schlonged by Clem and Oklahoma

So if Alabama beat nobody this year, who did Central Florida beat?

I know you’re not comparing SOS between Alabama and UCF.

Why not an undefeated UCF? Who says they couldn’t hand. Look what Boise St has done to P5 schools in bowl games.

Funny to start the year we keep ripping on Iowa’s non conference. But look at Alabama only power 5 team was 6-6 FSU, with non power 5 Fresno st 9-4, Colorado state 7-5 and mighty Mercer who is 5-6 and FCS. Overall 2 SEC cross over teams were 1-15 in conference with Vandy and Tenn. According to last playoff rankings only 2 ranked teams were 17 and 23 in LSU and Miss St.

Why I find this so amusing is everyone ripped on Iowa’s 15’ resume especially national media when you break it down they really weren’t too far off. Iowa beat 2 Power 5 teams and 2 ranked both on road similar to ranked squads Bama beat. Long story short if this were any program with blind resume most people would say no way they should be in. On top of if it didn’t win conference let alone division.

If all things were equal I agree with you. I am not foolish to believe UCF ran a gauntlet this year. Having said that my sentiments side with giving an unknown a chance to shock the world. I would love to see how Scott Frost would diagram plays against a Clemson or Oklahoma.

I know its a movie but if Appollo Creed never gave Rocky a shot Philly wouldnt have known a great boxer.

I want to see somebody get a chance to prove these analysts wrong. If UCF could pull off the unthinkable imagine how ape$@$! crazy Husker fans would be.

" We just got number six Iowa" crickets

" Wait that counts right?"

crickets.

When comparing to teams that played CCG, teams that didn’t should be viewed with one more loss to a top team. Alabama should be considered as 11-2. So should have OSU Last year

This would be good:
Clemson
Oklahoma
Georgia
OSU
USC
UCF
Alabama
Wisconsin

6 highest ranked conf champs plus two wildcards. 4 top champs are seeds 1-4, then seed others 5-8. Top seeds host quarterfinals next week, and then losers still get a bowl.

#5 Alabama at #4 OSU
#8 UCF at #1 Clemson
#6 USC at # 3 Georgia
#7 Wisconsin at #2 Oklahoma

Ohio State get more mulligans than a hack golfer. If Iowa beat a top 25 Nebraska the pundits talk about what is wrong with Nebraska. If Ohio State beats that same Nebraska squad the talk is how good Ohio State is. Its a mind numbing repititious merry go suck.

Maybe this year will lead to the 8 team playoff. two teams with the biggest beef will be two of OSU, Alabama, and USC. Can’t get much more blue blood than that. 2014, who cares if TCU or Baylor didn’t make it. 2016, PSU? Meh. But 2 of these 3 this year?

The big argument against the 8 team playoff is player safety. I like your formula and believe it makes alot of sense.

Who knows maybe they can space the weeks out and eliminate a week or two of worthless cupcake matchups.

The problem with that is lost home revenue and people stating eliminating patsy games wouldnt make up for more hard hitting big games.

Nobody worries about player safety for FCS playoffs.
I know, the argument for that is the players arent as big or fast. Most of them dont have NFL careers at risk either.

That's not how I feel just to clarify, I always thought four spots and five P5 chapions dont match. What are they going to do if we have five undefeated conference champions?

Its all subjective and changes depending on who you talk to. I think we can all agree on Clemson, Oklahoma and Georgia. Did they look impressive and win their conferences? Yep.

Now I would say if you are still considering Alabama why not Wisconsin? They have one more win, and lost to the BIG champions.
They didnt beat anyone of note but neither did Bama. Bama lost to a three loss team that didnt win their conference and looked far worse in their title loss than Wisconsin.

This is what is dangerous about transitive results and comparisions. There is no definite answer here and no matter who you pick there will always be controversy.

I've never felt I had a grasp of the committees mission. Are they picking "the best" 4 teams or the 4 teams with the best resume?

If it's resume (which is the only fair thing to do) I'd pick UCF.... They didn't lose any games.

I'd actually rather they picked the most interesting 4 teams and eliminated you if you've recently been selected for passing the "eye test".

Most years I've said the playoff has worked as intended because every team had a chance to control its own destiny. Can't say that this year which I don't like.

Life just can't ever be easy.

I miss the BCS.
The two top teams was never hard to determine.
AND it made the other bowls still mean something.
Now, we get an extra "playoff" game and a bunch of exhibition games.

You want to know why Ohio State and Alabama get the nod due to the so-called "eye tests" regardless of wins and losses or SOS? It's their recruiting rankings. Take a look from 2013 to 2017:

Alabama: 1, 1, 2, 1, 1
Ohio State: 2, 3, 9, 3, 2

Next best team is probably Florida State: 10, 4, 3, 2, 5. I know Florida State had injuries and lost a lot of upperclassmen to the NFL, but how does a team with that type of talent fail so miserably? Lack of chemistry? Lack of coaching? Poor recruiting at QB (maybe this because once Francois went down against Bama they looked like crap).

Oh, and by the way, Wisconsin has had zero top 25 recruiting classes between 2013 and 2017. In fact, only one B10 West team has had any top 25 recruiting classes. That would be Nebraska: 17 (2013), 24 (2016), and 20 (2017). I don't know if there was a lot of attrition from the 2013 class when Pelini was fired and Riley was hired, but the only high-ranking talent Nebraska had on its team this year was from true sophomores, redshirt freshman, and true freshman. As bad as Riley was this year, he was recruiting well compared to every other B10 West team. He may have actually turned into a formidable force in the B10 West. He definitely didn't leave the cupboard bare for Frost. But that's another story.

Oh, and the four B10 East teams that have recruited in the top 25 consistently between 2013 and 2017? You guessed it: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Michigan State. Turns out recruiting rankings may tell some of the story at least. If Nebraska finds a QB they may be pretty good two years from now.

I was just responding to your OP question, who has Alabama beat. Then you go on to say UCF deserves a shot. I think fair is fair, who has UCF beat?

I’m not an Alabama fan by any means and would feel a lot better if they weren’t in the CFP. Just asking a question.

Actually I think SOS bw Bama and UCF isn't that far off, believe it or not.

According to Sagarin (last updated stats):

Alabama #1 w/ 56 SOS
UCF #16 w/ 83 SOS

Teamrankings.com SOS
Alabama 47
UCF 89

Damn near identical. I think I’ll choose not to believe it.

Those two sites also have Ohio state with a tougher schedule - wondering how come espn show Alabama with a much tougher schedule than Ohio state on their rankings?

UCF just gave up 700+ yards to Memphis. They would get killed by a real team.

OSU has 3 wins better than any win Alabama has. Does that offset the additional loss? Also not that their loss to Oklahoma is “better” than Alabama’s to Auburn.

I would agree with most of your points, but it seems your reasoning for keeping Alabama out is they didn't play a hard schedule. Fine. But then you argue in favor of UCF. Not sure that lends credence to your argument against Bama based on schedule strength.

Like I said, 56 and 83 isn't that far off. If you take out Auburn, which Alabama lost to, I would guess Bama's strength of schedule would fall behind UCF. Also Auburn now has 3 loses so SOS will fall regardless.

Bama's only quality win was against an ok LSU. UCF had quality wins against Memphis and USF, both of whom are comparible to LSU this year.

You’re confusing best record with best resume. If I was a sales manager comparing two potential sales people to join my team, the person who says they have made 15 sales calls door to door the past 2 months , closed every single time, for a total revenue of $8000; and a person who has 8 years of B to B Professional Sales who closes on 20% of their calls, averaging $3.2 million dollars in revenue... the first person would have the better record of sales closes, but the second person would have a much more impressive resume.

UCF has the better record, some of the other contenders have a better resume.

You are right look at their Ws
non confernce- FSU 6-6, colorado st 7-5, fresno st 9-4 and FCS Mercer who was 5-6
Sec east cross over- Vanderbilt and Tenn who were a combined 1-15 in SEC this year.
Sec West- Arkansas below .500, 6-6 ole miss on probation. LSU 9-3 highest ranked win vs team who lost to Troy. Miss st 8-4 beat by 7 on the road and lost at Auburn 10-3 by 12.

What is so great about this resume?
