Alabama offers Iowa's #1 target AJ Epenesa

It won't be easy getting AJ, but this season certainly can't hurt. I think AJ would see the field sooner at Iowa and in the end get a better education.

It is a long way until February 2017.

Another year like this last year next year and I think we start reaping the benefits with top 100 recruits. I mean look at MSU and what they have done recruiting wise since they started winning games.

Hopefully Iowa can get him. You will never be able convince me that Bama's recruiting was on the complete up on up wits the CF OL. Kids flip but Legacy and picks Iowa over the national runner up. Only to flip at the last second to Bama. Granted they dominated ND in the CG. But it never passed the smell test.

Probably another site but he is def a 5 star.

saban doesn't do much scouting other than looking at the recruiting rankings, measureables, and then offering. He cuts any busts/ mistakes after 1st year. Too bad NCAA doesn't have any mandate other than make the most money for the Blue bloods and NCAA insiders

A.J would be a such a huge get for KF and staff. His commitment could possibly solidify Juan and help build an amazing 2017 class. In a perfect world he would commit early, but haven't heard of his time table yet.

Every team that has had a good line on AJ has had some inside Hawkeye connection. Notre Dame has Bob Elliot, Oklahoma has the Stoops bros and Kerry Cooks, and Iowa is, of course, Iowa! Recruiting, when it is done right, is still mostly about relationships and trust.

While the hype surrounding Alabama could influence AJ some ... ultimately, I doubt that he ends up landing there.

Talked to a MSU guy the other day in Indy and while he said they have been doing well in the recruiting game, he said it has helped that Michigan has been down. He stated that not all their targets are MU guys, but he said anyone that has been between the 2 has gone to MSU. He worries that could hurt some of their recruiting if MICH become relevant again. But he also said that they take "system" guys. Stars don't mean much to them, they would rather get a 2 star who can produce, than take a 5 star who can't.

I am on the same boat, if we can continue this run into next year, the class of 2017 will be a nice class. Also I think with the new facilities, it will help as well. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going into the off-season.

I think that is a false assumption to make. Yeah its frustrating to see a team like Alabama get the pick of the litter, but they evaluate talent like the rest of the nation, the only difference is they have a much higher success rate of landing the top prospects, and when they miss out on option A, they can swoop in and offer B and land them after other schools spend months building relationships with Alabama's B recruit, which is often others A player. Its the same with Kentucky in basketball, look no further than the case of Tyler Ulis.

If you don't think Alabama's staff evaluates talent like the rest of the country and our own Kirk Ferentz, I think you are sadly mistaken.

As for your comment regarding cutting busts/recruiting misses after one year, perhaps there is some truth to that statement, that is the reality of college football. We simply have a staff that chooses not to do this for the most part, although I think you saw an example of this with the punter that wasn't on the team this year. I'm not sure if he remained on scholarship and counted against our 85 limit, but I think he was essentially cut based on performance, he certainly didn't pan out. speaking of punting, while we have a lot returning on paper for next year, special teams is going to be a huge question mark, place kicker and punter.

Lol and once again recruits are put to the test. Help feed Iowa or keep a school like Bama nice and fat.
