so Alabama has Mike Locksley, great but shady recruiter, on staff as well as newly hired Steve Sarkisian, a good offensive mind, as a "tape watcher." This is on top of their staff allotment. I realize they aren't supposed to have the same contact with players/recruits as the rest of the staff but this smells bad. It's not like they, or the SEC, need additional advantages. Is everyone else doing this?

Pretty much everyone is doing this. Harbaugh has a few. Iowa has a "football analyst" on staff-Austin Showalter.

Looks like they better fire Showalter. Last 3 games counting the Big chip' and Rose. Iowa has been gashed in rush defense and chunk yardage plays.

Are you suggesting that Alabama could be toeing the line? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Austin Showalter < 2 former D1 head coaches. Which begs the question, who the f is Austin Sowalter?

Former ast coach at CR-Xavier,former office ast for KOK/David Raih, former offensive GA at Iowa. In his second year as a football analyst for the Hawks. Earned his Bachelor's and Master's from Iowa.

Alabama is too big to fail. The sport (read: SEC CBS and ESPN television contracts) would collapse upon itself if they were hit with NCAA sanctions.

They can do whatever they want because Alabama being down due to sanctions would hurt too many different NCAA partners.
When did the last set of sanctions expire? 2012? Think that was their 3rd time on probation since the early to mid 90's...The problem is, they don't hit them hard enough for being habitual offenders..They (NCAA) sting them a little, just not enough.

I get your overall point, though...

I hope that was a medical degree he earned. Because Showalter can't break down defensive film worth a crap obviously.

I assumed he was another one of Kirk's relatives.

They should hire McCarney or Chuck Long for a couple of these types of positions.

They don't pay much...Locksley is making 45k. Erik "Soup" Campbell made the same, filling some non coaching role at Michigan last year...I know most of these guys have made quite a bit throughout their careers, but, maybe, these type of lower paying jobs don't interest them..

This is correct.

Mike Locksley, Lane Kiffin, and now Steve Sarkisian. Won't be long and Art Briles will find his way onto the 'bama staff. Is Mark Mangino available? Too bad JoePa kicked the bucket - he coulda had a nice little retirement plan as 'bama's "Ethics Oversight Supervisor."

I just like the Michigan guys. Hired the head coach of the #1 recruit in the nation as special teams coordinator?? Huh, wonder why the kid chose to go there??

I mean if the NCAA can't see that shady practice, I don't know what to say.

Partridge was hired as the director of personnel in 2015. He had previously sent players to Michigan before Harbaugh arrived..Peppers and an O-lineman were 2 of them that signed when Brady Hoke was the HC. Iowa signed one of his players that year-Terrance Harris (transferred).Partridge wad recently elevated to a full time job as the LB coach. He and 2-3 other full time asts handle the ST's at Michigan. Harbaugh has hired a few high school coaches from areas he has signed recruits..Devin Bush being one. His son is at Michigan. He hired Biff Poggi from a top Maryland high school. His son is at Michigan. He hired an ast high school coach from Alabama. Michigan has signed 3 kids from that high school. Just providing a little more info...

I would assume that this isn't their only source of income. They probably make a significant amount (more than $45,000) from working at numerous camps and clinics.
