Fashion police: Alabama town to ban saggy pants and too-short shorts after councilman ‘prayed about this’
A small Alabama town is about to turn their cops into fashion police by passing an ordinance banning saggy pants and too-short shorts that expose too much butt to city residents, reports the Alex City Outlook.

“We have people walking down the street with their hand in front of them holding up their pants,” Dadeville City Councilman Frank Goodman said. “Then they have the nerve to walk into a place of business and ask for a job. If you come to my house you are going to pull them up before you get on my property, much less in my door. I prayed about this. I know that God would not go around with pants down.”

Dubbed the “Saggy Pants Ordinance,” city council member Stephanie Kelley opted to include women who wear too short dresses or booty shorts.

“My concern is it should be for everybody,” Kelley said at Tuesday’s Council meeting. “I think for the girls, with these shorts up so high looking like under garments and dresses so short, I don’t want us to be showing favoritism.”

“It is about respect,” Goodman explained. “Who is going to respect you if you don’t respect yourself. The reason I brought this up is I think people deserve respect when they are in public. I think slacking is disrespectful. I think it gives our younger generation the wrong impression of what is cool.”

Other council members agreed with the plan, with James Tarpley saying, “I have heard more favorable positive comments about us even considering this than I have on anything else since I have been on the council.”

The city attorney, who had already been working on the saggy pants portion of the proposal said he would have the ordinance prepared by the next council meeting, saying that adding women’s clothes would “take a little more creativity on my part.”

Maybe he feels like baggy pants is a trip and fall hazard and is just trying to make his city safer.

I should apply. I'd love handing out tickets to ugly, poorly dressed people. Can I tase them too?

Good for him. Sometimes crazy right wingers have a point. Show the world that you have a small amount of self respect. Nobody needs to see your ass in public.
There are very few asses I'd like to see in public, but I will defend to the death your right to show your ass. Not saying I won't point and laugh or puke but I've, um, got your back.

This isn't limited to the religious idiots and certainly not the first time this has been tried. Here's another town that tried to ban a certain way of wearing clothes. Idiot leaders of the local NAACP supported this.

Before the vote, Jerome Boykin, president of the local chapter of the NAACP, argued in favor of the sagging ban.

"There is nothing positive about people wearing saggy pants," he said. "This is not a black issue, this is not a white issue, this is a people issue."

Diana Collins, an NAACP youth director, said that sagging should not be tolerated.

"We (are) here tonight to try and put a stop to this thing and let these boys and girls look decent," she said.

The enemies of freedom are everywhere.

I should have qualified my remarks to say, "Nobody needs to see your ass in public unless you are hot and can pull off the look". Fatties at the store, or the Boyz In The Hood look doesn't qualify. Show some dignity.
