As usual, many Hawk fans were saying Wisconsin wasn’t that good after losing to BYU. That Hornibrook isn’t a very good quarterback. Even I....the eternal pessimist, thought the Hawks could pull this off. But then:

Iowa makes costly mental mistakes. Wisconsin does not.

When Wisconsin’s D needed to make a stop, they did. When Iowa’s D needed to make a stop, they allowed Wisconsin to march 88 yards virtually uncontested.

When Wisconsin’s offense needed a drive, they put together the masterful 88 yard drive mentioned above. When Iowa needed a drive to put the game away, they didn’t (second and 2 and you run WIDE????). And Hornibrook, the QB who isn’t very good? Did he even have one incomplete pass that drive?

Iowa’s vaunted d-line was manhandled. They put no pressure on Hornibrook at all. Wisconsin was routinely gashing them for 5-6 yards/run.

This is why Wisconsin routinely goes to the Big 10 Championship game, and why Iowa is almost never a threat to do so.

This was supposed to be the year for Iowa to challenge....a lot of returning starters, favorable schedule....but one game into the conference and we are all but eliminated from winning the West.

The Hawks can still have a good season and make a January bowl. It will depend on how the team reacts to this loss. Do they refocus, or just go thru the motions from here on out?

All Wisconsin does is win.

No arguments with your post whatsoever. They made the plays when the game was on the line and we didn't.

Better teams make the plays when they have to. Wisconsin is just a better program right now.
