Americans are flocking to expat websites after the election: 'They want out, fast'

Poland sounds good actually, strict immigration rules.
Poland is actually one of my favorite countries in Europe. I first visited because a flight to Wroclaw was cheap as hell and I needed to fly all my family members. We arrived and had a blast. Cheap food, lodging, clean as far as the places we visited, food was good, lots of good beer and people were generally welcoming to Americans. Id go again in a second.

Live there? No, I'm American. This is the greatest country in the world IMO. But could I spend months there in the summer? Yes.

I could get citizenship in Slovenia if I wanted to move to somewhere in Europe. I dont speak the language but I loved the country.

Which Polish political party controls Warsaw?

Then take a step back and imagine judging America by one of our gateway cities, which of course by nature of being a city is governed by...

Been dying to get one but my littles don't eat enough to justify it.

My wife's grandpa was the priest at her Greek Orthodox church. They have a festival every summer, so much food, so good, but it's getting smaller.

My job has been to shave gyro off the spit. Here in Chicagoland we have 40 pound beef/lamb cones.

My dream is to always have a cone in the freezer and have one of the spits to be able to do it on demand!

Which church? I live very close to the one at Palatine and Roselle roads. Go to Greekfest there every year.

Well, speaking of Greek run eateries, do you go to Billy’s on Northwest Highway? @ThorneStockton
It was the FIL’s go to place. 20 ish years ago it was a bit like the diner on Seinfeld that Elaine got all worked up about due to the busty waitresses. The owner would have all his busty Greek daughters there on the weekends. Good pancakes, too.
I haven’t been there in 5 years or so, not since the FIL passed away.

Greek food is one of life’s great pleasures. The enormous Greek Orthodox Church here on the south side of Jacksonville had their Greek Food Festival last weekend. We thought about going but the traffic backup was over an hour just to get into the parking lot. 🤨

Huh…never been, will have to check it out.

Continuing wth Greek food, if you manage to have leftover gyro, put some in an omelet the next morning. Then slide that omelet into a pita that you were heating in the gyro fat.

Delish.

Already done it but planned it before the elections. Currently living in Poland from Florida. Will be spending half the time in Ukraine. Everyone is very nice here. Weather in the winter kinda sucks. Spring summer and fall it gets really nice. No humidity, hurricanes, or tornados. Food is better.

What did you do regarding visas?

I'm certain my wife's family would know someone from your family or at least know someone who does, Greeks seem to be like that! Their church is in Hammond, but I know she has "theos" and "theas" that go to Merrillville. I was married at the Annunciation Cathedral (ooo la la!) in Chicago two summers ago.

The food is the best part, but I will say I can't get behind cinnamon in the red sauces. And lasagna > pastitso.

I’m sure she would maybe know my surname—Zervos. I grew up in Miller (Gary).
My cousins are still living in the area: Valpo, Crown Point, and Orland Park.
I miss the area but not the winters, of course.

I’m sorry but pastitso rules. 😜

One of my good friends here in Tallahassee grew up in Tarpon Springs.

He’s Irish Greek, and a music professor of ethnomusicology at FSU. He also lived in Brazil for a number of years.

Super talented, is primarily a percussionist, but plays all the Greek instruments.

I generally like Greek music, Spotify has a nice "Greek Taverna" playlist. I had a Greek band at my wedding and I 'learned' to dance the hasapiko, I think it was. Lovely culture.

Plus the food. There are a lot of Greek Brazilians. The food is incredible.

Unfortunately the food at the local Greek festival here in Tallahassee was not up to snuff this past year.

I’ve made moussaka from scratch three times. I consulted my real Greek friend in NY.
I complained that it was a two day ordeal. He laughed and said, “that’s why our grandmothers make it”

I once helped one of my friends make baklava. She’s Greek American. That is really labor intensive. But, so good.

Greek food definitely is one of the best cuisines in the world, imo.

Yes the food is a treat. My wife makes a tasty spanikopita - and make the phyllo from scratch - which is long process. Easter is coming up, the lamb and magiritsa soup at 1-2 am is the only thing that gets me through midnight mass.

I'd love to see some Greek-Brazilian fusion, seems like two cultures that would at the minimum have a lot of fun together.

Yes use picanha in the gyro. Lol. Just kidding

For me, if I were in Brazil, I’d relish some of the churrasco with Tzatziki and some of the other dips. But, some things are similar to Greek. Molho caipira is tomatoes peppers onions garlic and olive oil.

I make that every time I cook flank steak.

So here’s one for you. My fusion. Marinate flank steak in Ponzu and black pepper. Make molho caipira. And have tzatziki on the side.

That’s because I grew up all over.

Yum! And a trip to Tarpon Springs is absolutely worth the drive if you head to one of the restaurants and then stroll along the docks - buy a LARGE amount of Greek pastries to bring home.
The Greek Orthodox Church here in Jacksonville brings thousands of foodies out every year to enjoy the homemade food the ladies of the parish start on in advance and store in their freezers until the festival weekend. 😋😋😋

This Joshua Weissman video got me interested in visiting Mexico City. Now I learn that it never is too hot there due to the altitude and that Americans can easily obtain a visa to live in Mexico. There are many Americans living in Mexico City. I may be joining them soon.

I saw this years ago.

Mexico City is amazing. I've been there several times and could happily live there. Same with Merida.

We're looking at Santiago de Queretaro. We could move there tomorrow and retire in our 40's. Same latitude as Hawaii. Low crime, better healthcare. What's not to love.
