Andrew Francis

per Des Moines Register..did not say where.
I had a chance to spend sometime with Coach Francis last fall. My guess is if an assistant job..more than likely a step up ..but we should know soon..I would suspect.

Best of luck to Coach Franics!!! I really thought he would be a lifer, considering he married a Hawkeye.... But if he wants to move up, it is now or never...

Once a Hawkeye...

To me I found it quite odd that a young assistant like Andrew would stick around under a head coach for over 11 years without trying to move up the chain, but being the youngest assistant on Fran's staff, I'm kind of bummed that he's leaving instead of either Kirk or Sherm.
Oh well, maybe Fran can pick up some up and coming black assistant to fill the position that's a defensive guru. At least Fran can't hire Doc Sadler since Hoiberg has already taken him off the market.

Oliver has to be a front runner for the position doesn’t he? I can’t see Gatens moving up from Director of B-ball operations at Drake to an assistant at Iowa. I’m not sure who else Fran has connections to in college ball. I am guessing it ends up being some connection we don’t know about.

that would be cool!
certainly don't want some lame white defensive guru !

I echo the sentiments of many that have posted before me. Please Coach Fran, hire a defensive mother frickin rebounding defensive assistant. Turn over (anyone) more than half of practice time to your new hire.

May the new Hawkeye Coach be experienced and seasoned and yet not 44 or so. Hopefully with some Chicago ties, loves to recruit and brothers are especially welcome. No young, or former Hawkeyes need apply... unless they are the best fit. Iowa deserves nothing less.

I'd like to see another assistant walk as well (Sherm).. Nothing wrong with having experience (coaching) in your assistants but IMO we need younger "fresh blood" that will be more appealing to recruits.

Good luck to Coach Francis. Could be a win-win, since Hawks need some change. If we are tossing out former Hawk players, I'll vote for Ryan Bowen, although I think he is very happy as a Denver assistant in the NBA. Ryan could certainly teach "the right way to play", especially on defense.

Wouldn't be all to surprised to see Courtney Eldridge, Iowa's video coordinator get the job. Had a stellar basketball career at UNC Greensboro from 1998 to 2002 (sound familiar), played pro ball for 12 years and is under 40 years old. He's already familiar with Iowa's roster and Fran wouldn't have to go out and beat the bush to find a replacement for Francis. Logical choice in my opinion..
