Well if pizza isn't an option, I'd go with Portillo's. I love their menu. Get the chocolate cake shake since you're there. My son and his three college buddies will be in Davenport tonight on their way back home from their 4725 mile road trip...best place for 4 college kids to grab a beer and some good food?
And no, QC-Style pizza does not qualify as "good food"

I don't think they serve beer though...?
Rookies...If your college kids are 40, Sports Fans and Filling Station is perfect for a Friday night
Sadly, service and food quality there has seriously nosedived.Filling station.
I hope they went to Gramma's Kitchen then --- damn good biscuits and gravy there.just to close the story...they ended up stopping at the I-80 Truck stop in Walcott for gas and food before hitting the casino they were staying at for the night...I think they left the casino around 3 am and were back on the road with some Casey's breakfast pizza around 8am...

We started ordering food from a local restaurant every Friday when the shutdowns started last year and went with Gunchies several times(I've known the old owner, Eric, since Jr High and also know the new owner, Al).I did not say Gunchies,,,,which also has very good wings.
That's a shame. Was always my favorite place to stop when in town.Sadly, service and food quality there has seriously nosedived.
I can't in good conscious recommend Filling Station any longer.

Is Iowa Machine Shed still a thing?
Everyone has this problem. Servers that can hold up are making bank!Conscience?
Also, the same is true for most restaurants I've been to recently. They are all understaffed.
You referenced Grammas Kitchen later in the thread. We were just there a couple weeks ago on our way back into town and they were severely understaffed. I felt sorry for our waitress having to apologize every time she stopped at a table for everything taking so long and having to deal with customers who didn't appreciate how hard she was working.
it was fantastic 40 years ago when you bought toast family style and they brought a pot of strawberry jam to the table.yes, highly over rated too
