Any male poster here admit they pierced their ear at some point?

All those bohemians didn't do it for you?

Almost got my eyebrow pierced..........thought about a tattoo as well.

When it came down to it......neither really did anything for me, and I couldn't think about what I'd want tattooed on my body. So I decided not to.
Drugs & Alcohol? When i was in the UK, I was the oldest member of the band and the only one that could get on the insurance for our tour vans...which meant I was also always the one driving, and managing the business of the band. By the time I was in the band I played with in Spokane, Wa.....I was in my late 20's, and had a corporate career I was tending to as well.......I may have had a beer or two before going on stage, or before hitting the DJ booth......but getting wasted and acting stupid was out of the question. By 30, my daughter was on the way, and I pretty much stopped drinking as well. I also wanted to be in control while performing......played drunk a couple times....i didn't like how it felt.

And for the Bohemians? Some of the girls are HOT, but I was married at 23....so that party didn't last long. Anyway..... I hate the smell of patchouli.

I get the feeling the younger the people are when they got their ear pierced the more white trash that person is. The same can be said for tats the more you have the more of a poor you probably are.

It was sort of like a smaller, less feathery version of what Mr T had back in the early 80's. I basically tied a fly on one of the longer earring bases that doesn't have a back on it. They hung about an inch below my earlobe but looked like a fly.

The girls I hung out with dug it, of course the girls I hung out with thought Henry Rollins was the hottest guy on the planet.

I am old and grey and my wife still has a thing for Rollins! She always liked the muscle bound types.

Let's face it.....if you were a punk in the 80's.....you wanted to be either Rollins, Ian MacKaye, or Joe Strummer.

I jokingly told my dad I was gonna get a tattoo at 18. He told me he was happy I had that kind of money and now I could pay for college, my car, etc. A joke turned into a lesson and I've only accumulated accidental scars since.

That depends on the Tattoos really. If you have 15-20 tats that look like they are from some guys trailer, then I agree. If you have a bunch of well done art that is from a high end parlor, then probably not a poor. I have a friend who had some tribal work done. Top part looks like The Rocks tribal, but full sleeve. Bottom covers left ass cheek and goes all the way down his leg. All hand done over a two month period. Cost 15k. Not a poor.

Yup, Tattoos aren't the signs of a poor. Look at celebrities, athletes, etc. I've met corporate executives who have tattoo art all over their body. They are in fact made to cover them up while at work, but it's allowed.

As for your friend, did he have it done in the traditional tribal way? Or a modern tattoo artist? The traditional island way is VERY painful and rare. I believe that rocks was done traditionally.

Uh-oh,...Torbee, did you just pull an Aegon?
Also don't try and hide this, I've snipped it already and you can't hide now. Careful how you choose to respond, because how you respond will tell me everything I need to know.

You admitted to a piercing so I doubt you think a tattoo is anything bad. Stevenpatrick though would have most definitely responded in this way.

It's what he likes so who are we to judge. When he puts a suit and tie on you wouldn't peg him to have a tattoo at all. I think it's stupid when someone pays 10k-100k for a piece of artwork. Tattoos are very common today and art for the body.

Modern artist. I wouldn't even know where you could have it done traditionally at near iowa.

I was just wondering if that is why it was that much. I'm not real familiar with pricing to be honest. But that is a lot of moolah.

The whole process took eight five hour sessions, so 40 hrs. He free hands the whole thing, so that's spendy I'm sure. Also the guy spent 20 hours drawing it up for him to look at, and make sure that is what he wanted before they started.

Have had the chance to meet Rollins and MacKaye....both were great. Strummer got too political for me.
I was truly a Milo Aukerman guy.........that was my punk hero. Descendents freaking rocked....and still do.

Never got to meet MacKaye, but I did get to meet Rollins. Talked to him for about 5 minutes, seemed like a really cool guy, really interested in hearing you, not the "well, I'll listen since I'm here" attitude at all.

I always wanted to be Rollins,...but then again I am a liar,....so you never know.

I always liked both. They had that underground, east coast, DC attitude. Not cocky, a bit brash but not so much the NY in your face type of thing going on. Both always seemed a bit different than most of the other 70's-early 80's guys.

Met Rollins after a spoken word gig in London. Met Ian and the rest of Fugazi after a show in Norwich.
Henry was great....but Ian was amazing......all the guys in Fugazi were very very cool with my band mates and I.
I agree with you on Henry....he is truly interested in what you're saying and loves to talk about musical influences.

I was pissed at a buddy of mine. He got to hang out with both for about 2 hours in DC one time, a friend of his had taken him to some music thing...anyway. He had never heard of either of them, just started chatting them up while there. Said they were really cool guys, interesting, down to earth. He couldn't remember their names completely, said one was Howard Rollins, I said "the black actor", "no, he's a singer, speaker, something like that". I thought about it and it hit me "you met Henry Rollins? You f-er" (I hadn't met him yet). He said "yeah, he was standing there with a buddy of his, Ian something", "MacKaye? You a-hole"

I was in a bad mood for the rest of the evening. This dumbass didn't know who they were and he got to talk to them for a couple of hours, I idolized them growing up (not that they're that much older than me) and am listening to him tell me how great of guys they are.
