Saw where Memphis coach is leaving to become the head coach at Ga Tech.

Any new transfers out there? I saw the list is up to 350+ right now and still growing. Just wondering if any news has been leaked about anyone visiting?

Probably be more once they all go through NBA Draft evaluations.
This is a big factor no one is really talking about. Coaches won't know how many scholarships they officially have until late May after NBA evals. Makes late season recruiting kinda tough.

This situation reminds me of McDermott at isu. His seat was getting hot and able to start fresh at creighton.

Not sure you can equate Fran's tenure to McDermott's. McDermott went 59–68 overall in his 4 seasons at Iowa State. Did they even make the tournament?

Did he sign his NLI though? Can he get out of it when the coach leaves?
Pretty sure the common practice is when a coach leaves, the school will let the player out of the NLI. But that has to happen before any other coach can contact them. So Memphis's new coach will have first stab at him.

Welp, does anyone know if the bridge is burned between him and Fran? Of course, he could just follow Pastner to GT.
I don't recall hearing anything terrible had happened there. Would still be a freshman PG along with Williams and Bohanon instead of someone with experience, but he is the quick guard we've been looking for. I would love to see him end up at Iowa.

Some interesting names here as both Brian Gregory & Josh Pastner were on the coaching list of 10-12 candidates after Lick was fired along with Stallings. I recall Gregory wanting some pretty big bucks to come to Iowa. Took the GTech job and failed to make the big dance 5 straight years - fired. Sounds like Memphis fans are happy to see Pastner go too.

GTech is also an interesting program with some high peaks and valleys. Cremmins & Hewitt had it rolling at one point with salty teams and final fours only to eventually sputter out. Just goes to show that 'next level' does not always last even after great success.

Apparently didn't sign an NLI. Has already decommitted. First school to contact him.....Wisconsin:eek:

I think the list is over 700.

Unless they've changed the rule -- which is quite possible -- even if the player is released from a NLI, he/she loses a year of eligiblity for transferring.

Wrong... see Ben Brust

As long as student has not started classes they would not have to sit out or vacate a year of eligibility.

I don't think that is right. I think if a school releases a player from the LOI they can play right away. Ben Brust at Wisconsin is an example of that.

Did I read that Fran stopped recruiting him? I thought someone posted that a while back. If that's the case, i am assuming we will not be able to get him to come to Iowa.

I am really praying Fran finds a decent 5th year PG. I don't care who, just as long as they can defend and handle the ball against pressure. Oh yeah and average 15pts and 10 assists a game. That would be nice.

From what I read I thought the reason Fran cooled on Moore was because Moore had cooled on Iowa (wasn't there a Moore tweet in which he had 5 official visits planned and Iowa was not among them?)

Unless there was some glaring character issue I think it's at least worth a phone call to see if he would be open to reconsidering Iowa. After all, at one point, he seemed pretty high on Iowa. So unless there was a definite bridge burned, why wouldn't you make contact? Clearly, the opportunity for immediate playing time exists.

It's no secret that the Badgers have been looking for a '16 point guard to back up Bronson.
Reports earlier this week indicate that Wisconsin has been in touch with Meech Trice out of Dayton, Ohio.
Charlie Moore is a bit of a surprise but here is an article I saw:

Id put money on Charlie not going to Wisonsin. He knows he'd be behind Bronson and a recruit like Charlie expects to start from day one.

Then they changed the rule.....although it might have happened several years ago. It's been more than a decade since I paid attention to it. The rule was that if a student who had signed an NLI lost two years' eliibility if the school didn't release him and 1 year even if it did.

Or I'm wrong, but I don't think so in this case, because the rule came up in a controversy involving some Big XII school, I think Kansas.

why are you throwing Williams and Bohanon under the bus?

I wouldn't put money on the decision of any seventeen year old.;)
Of the schools he has mentioned, where would he not be behind someone?

My memory is a bit fuzzy, but as I recall it we were pretty high on him and he on Iowa. Then he had his dad's health issue come up prior to visits being scheduled. During that time both Iowa and Illinois moved on. Illinois added a commit and Iowa had zeroed in on Bohanon. Although I don't think he committed before Moore started opening up his recruitment again, we had pretty much moved on from what I recall. There is also talk of him having some handlers that may have swayed Iowa to let ways. Reading between the lines I always took it as Charlie was going about his recruiting and then someone stepped in while his father fell ill and at that point the ballgame changed. I'm probably misremembering 90% of that so take it with a grain of salt.

You are wrong clone. If a recruit has not enrolled in classes he will be immediately eligible if he's released by the school he signed with. The releasing school can make him sit a year at set institutions. Iowa fans know this because Brust signed with Iowa, Lickliter left, Iowa eventually released him with no stipulations, and he played his first season at Wisconsin. There are plenty of articles if you need confirmation.

Basabe also got his release from Siena when Fran came to Iowa. Per a tweet I read Moore signed a conditional LOI allowing release, if Pasnor left, so he may not even need the school to release him from his LOI.

I remember a conversation show Fran did with two other coaches and I believe it was hosted by Seth Davis where he was emphatic that he does not like the transfer rules, especially the graduate transfer rule. In my opinion Fran will not be going after any grad transfers.

Perhaps you did not read my post. In addition to pointing out that I could be wrong, I specifically said I think the rule might have been changed, as my last experience with stories about it was more than 10 years ago.

So I did what I should have done -- or somebody accusing me of being wrong should have done -- before posting.

I was correct. That used to be the rule. It was changed in 2004.

He has also said in there past that he may not like the rules, but if he found someone that he thought fit, both in need and personality, he wouldn't have an issue taking one. IIRC, he's gone after a few while at Iowa, or at least made contact with them to gauge interest.
