give an f about small businesses? I think I have always voted primarily on social issues and although they are important to me, putting food on the table supersedes that. So as a small business owner that gets ass plundered by the tax man, are any of these dirtbags gonna help me out with that or what?

Feels good to do some adulting and start a political thread.

Well, Bernie will raise your payroll taxes to help out.

I don't know if any do, but several have made it quite clear they do not. Maybe you should start with that premise and whittle it down. Or, wait for the final two (or three) and see which one stinks less in that regard.

Anyone that wants to increase the minimum wage is out. Our hourly guys range between 10 and 18ish/hour not including our salary guys. Lower end manual laborers simply aren't worth more than what they are paid.

Clearly Donald will be bad. That wall will make it harder to find exploitable illegal labor.

All the Republicans will be good in the long run because they won't do anything about climate change. So there will be lots of opportunity when we have to start abandoning or rehabbing coastal cities and cleaning up after extreme weather events.

What do you think nat? I really don't get involved into politics much...I have voted Green and Democrat because I valued social issues but seeing what we do in business per year, what we get to keep, and what we pay back in has made me rethink things. It is not sustainable for a business to pay what we do in health care, insurance, equipment, payroll, etc, and still exist.

If small business issues were my only voting issue I think I would go,with Cruz. He promises radical change and has a track record of trying to deliver big. He would and could basically end Obamacare regulations by executive order. He won't back a minimum wage raise. He is for a flat tax and less regulation. If you're a company that enjoys substantial tax breaks or who competes with foreign companies, he may not be best as he promises to be a free trader who will close loopholes in the tax code.

If you want protection from foreign competition, Trump or Sanders help. Both promise universal government paid for healthcare, so that might fix your insurance issue. Sanders is going to be for upping the min. wage however. If you like your tax breaks and want more, Rubio or Clinton are your options with the main difference between them being Clinton's support for a $12 min. wage.

Maybe small business people would fare better if the system wasn't rigged so that the wealthy and big corps get the most subsidies.

Compared to really successful corporations small businesses get drilled. Look for candidates who get money from corporations to be favorable to rules and regulations that favor them. Someone will have to get the shaft.

In a conversation with a local journalist, she claimed that Cruz and Clinton were the biggest slime balls. I know that when small business is talked about in politics, they are referring to those much larger than ours. However, I think that many businesses like ours (20 employees+\-) are not represented well or at least that is my impression. Seventeen years in and have built a great business but still wonder where it all goes.

Have you sought out a cost recovery consultant? There are several firms that do this around the U.S. Many will evaluate for free and/or guarantee a recovery large enough to cover their fees. I've worked with a company out of Michigan called Growth Managment Group, but there are others if you research. They can help in the insurance, workers comp, equipment, R&D and many other local and state business incentive programs. You may find its a free opportunity to look over your accounting and see if there aren't options where the polititions have looked out for you already but you just aren't plugged into the program.
