The new media darling for Big 10 and National Player of the Year, who built much of his stat line on performances like last week when his team was up by 30 yet he stayed in until the end to pad his stats with a triple, pulled an even bigger clown move tonight.

His team was getting upset big time by MSU, down 14 with 45 seconds to play. At the time, he was shooting 4-16 from the field. He takes the ball, drives for a layup unguarded because MSU simply didn’t want to foul or give up a 3.

Next, MSU gets the ball and just dribbles out the clock. With 5 seconds left and the camera zoomed in on the coaches already shaking hands, the clown steals the ball from the guy dribbling out the clock, and runs down to make another layup with no time left on the clock. 4 cheap points and a steal to pad the stats at the end of a double digit loss. 🙄

Zero respect for that guy.

First, I hate Illannoy, and even rooted for MSU tonight, which hasn't happened in the regular season in the last decade or two. OP is wrong. Great player, and I have never heard anything but positive things, other than the original post. Lock first-team all B1G, and maybe All American.

There's nothing wrong with the first play you mention.

The second, yeah, that's a bit much, but oh well.

WTF was he supposed to do , quit trying ? stupid post .

Ayo does average more assists and steals. Behind Garza in PPG, rebounds, 3pt%, blocks. Even more so if you adjust per minute.

Not the end of the world, especially the next to last bucket. I don't think Ayo scoring a meaningless basket at the end of the game will make a difference in whether or not he wins POY in the Big 10. If the vote was today, it should be Garza and by quite a bit. Pretty incredible that Garza has taken more 3's, and shot a higher percentage, than Dosunmu. Illini close at Michigan, at Wisconsin and at Ohio State. Hello.

That's exactly what he's supposed to do when his coach says no fouls and the other team is dribbling out the clock with 20 secs left and up 14. If he wanted to show heart and effort, he should of brought it the first 39 min and 40 secs. Same shit they pulled with Iowa last year and then cried about it when Weiskamp dunked on them. He's a great player, but that was BS.

That kind of shit is reminiscent of Iowa's own Ricky Davis. He did stunts like that in the NBA.

And guess what??? Ricky is remembered as a kind of talented clown. There's an analogy lurking in there somewhere.

If 45 seconds of your life defines who you are, we might all be “clowns”.

Meh. It was a selfish play and actually hurt his cause for POY in B10 and nationally far more than the steal and 2 points might help him. The fact that ILL lost hurts his cause even more, though.

He hurt his PotY chance more by missing free throws and bricking three pointers than he did by playing to the buzzer. The kid was frustrated at a bad loss. At least he didn't punch someone in the face like Sissoko.

The play at the end of the game was bush league no matter how good the player is or what you think of him. To me it’s more a reflection on the coach than the player. That said both DO know better.

I don't think it is a big deal but I remember when the Illinois bench lost their minds when Wheezy dunked on a break away in

Yes I don't really mind a team playing to the end. This is college sports. If you don't like what the other team is doing, stop them from doing it. So in the case last year Illinois was pressuring the ball and trying to get it. Okay then, if you are still playing then don't get mad if Iowa tries to break the pressure and dunks on you. You can't have it both ways.

Given what we all remember from last season, it is 100% on the coach. They were still pressing which means they were going to play to the end of the game. As soon as we decided to play to the end of the game, they got pissed. That's coaching.

Well, according to Ayo’s behavior against Penn State back in December YES he IS supposed to quit. With approximately 20-30 seconds in the game Wheeler from Penn State was dogging the ball handler as he was dribbling out the game, reaching in tipping the ball away was called for a foul. Ayo sprinted across the court and got in Wheeler’s face and had to be pulled away. I find it very ironic he did the same as Wheeler in this game.
