Anyone Else See that Clown Dosunmu Tonight?

First, I don't care if the opposing team plays to the clock. Maybe they aren't happy with the way they played. That's different than taking cheap shots at the opposition out of frustration. Nobody on the Illini has done that. Frazier is the one who started the defense on the MSU player. Giving 100% is all he does all game every game. Not just at the end of a game. At some point, stop simply disparaging the Illini just to disparage them. Pick and choose your battles. You guys aren't even making good arguments in these minor incidents. Meanwhile Ayo almost has his skull crushed in by the MSU goon and nary a peep on here about it.
So you didn't answer earlier, what about last season in Iowa City, where AYO, and Frazier and the boys were hacking CMac and Iowa players with a few seconds left in a game already decided? Was that not taking cheap shots out of frustration? Or is this only Illini opponents who get frustrated by losses? What about your two coaches going bat shit crazy on Fran and having to be restrained from going after him. Pretty classy move by adults who are supposed to be setting an example, or did that not happen either?

A simple question just to make sure it's clear. Do you or do you not think Ayo's steal and score while the coaches were already walking to shake hands was completely unnecessary and not very sportsman like?

It was unnecessary in that it didn't affect the outcome of the game. But as long as no cheap shots were taken, I don't really care. It's a minor issue. Who knows what's in their heads? They are very competitive and play hard all the time. Those are considered good traits.

JJ is hilarious. I remember when it first came out in the '80s while I was at school and the Daily Illini carried it. People asked what is going on here? It was like there was no point to it. Jim just took a nap or something, and that was the strip of the day. Of course it was created by Scott Dikkers, who also created The Onion.

EDIT: "I didn't do anything today." LOL!

Glad you like my avatar, JJ is hilarious. I was stoked a few years back when Amazon re-released the '
The Pretty Good Jim's Journal Treasury'' Highly recommend. Enjoy.
I loved that '87 IL club - Tony W and Co! Of course the '89 team was even better... ;)

Seems like Illinois has trouble getting along with people. They've been getting in fights with everybody and now Ayo has a broken nose... sad 😢 😅

First, Illini haven't gotten into any fights with anyone. More bad facts. Secondly, how classy that you are cheering on a cheap-shot injury to Ayo. Not good optics for the Iowa fan base.

Nobody ever said Wheeler was supposed to concede. That's the false argument you guys are making to support your spurious conclusions.

What we’re saying is you simply can’t have it both ways. You see the difference as Curbelo was SHOVED to the floor. Give me a break.

Any video of the alleged incidents? I will respond accordingly. I'm just hearing one side of the story here.

Something interesting on Kofi. I completely missed it when watching the game live.. within a minute is when Kofi gets hit on the head.

Of course that's the difference. It is exactly what Ayo responded to, not that Wheeler was playing defense. And it's not what happened at MSU. No fouls at the end. No technicals. Just good defense. Unnecessary maybe but they are competitors. No cheap shots either.

Announcers said it was clearly a flagrant foul but it wasn't called one. The foul against Ayo was egregious.

Sorry, I didn't watch the clip until now. MSU was successful in getting into Illinois' head, but went too far with the cheap shots.

Scott Dikkers also had a comic strip book about plebes, whatever that means. It was a great book. Basically about college kids.

Personally I thought it should have been ruled a “Common Foul” on MSU when Ayo lost the ball & his momentum to the hoop created the contact to a MSU player who had jumped straight up. The collision of Ayo going full speed nearly head/shoulder first into the body of the MSU player is what caused collision that caused the defenders arms to come down on Ayo while both were still in the air causing an off balance Ayo to hit the floor hard. Reviewing the play in slow motion made it look worse (in terms of warranting being ruled a flagrant foul) than it really was...think even the play by play commentator may have commented to that effect.

Another non-issue. I don't see anything wrong from either team. Not sure what the coach was saying at the end.
You don't have a problem with Ayo punching down over a guy's shoulder with 2 seconds left on the clock? And that guy was just holding the ball, waiting for the clock to expire. There was no reason for him to do that. They cut off the part where Fran pulled his team out of the handshake line.

Ayo also stopped as soon as the clock expired. He wasn't trying to harass the player, other than playing defense. I don't see any cheap shots. I have no problem with Weezy's dunk. Still not sure what the coach was saying and why Fran pulled his team out of the handshake line.

p.s. On the Illini game tonight, Bardo just said that was an old-school physical game played by MSU, which is exactly what I wrote and he agreed with on his youtube channel.

The MSU player did not jump straight up. This clip doesn't even show the worst angle where the elbow crashes into the nose.

Seriously? Your a big Illini fan and didn't see the game at Iowa last season where your coaches had to be restrained from going after Fran in the handshake line, and your"boys" hacking our guys bringing up the ball with about 10 seconds left and the game long over. Why am I not surprised in the least by your lack of a response?????

I did respond and don't see anything of what you describe except one coach yelling.

I respectfully “Disagree”...MSU came over to contest the shot...when MSU defender jumped, for the most part he remained where he left the floor. Ayo initiated the contact coming at defender at an angle & unfortunately for Ayo his face ended up inadvertently colliding against defenders elbow while they both simultaneously collided chests in mid air...as Ayo elbow pushed off MSU defender in neck / shoulder region the MSU defenders arms came down on Ayo like they naturally would causing him to go to the floor.

Wisconsin’s Davison’s elbow to the head of opponents while driving to the hoop going up for a shot is a much more flagrant foul than what occurred between Ayo & MSU player.

There's a TV angle from behind the MSU player that shows him crashing his elbow down into the bridge of Ayo's nose. It looks very intentional and goes beyond the boundaries of the game. It has further implications too considering the postseason is coming up, and Ayo is a step away from going pro after that. Izzo exacerbated the situation afterwards comparing the game to a "street fight." If he wants a street fight, we can give it to him. We were playing basketball. Let us know the rules and we will adjust. GO ILLINI!

I haven't seen the Wisconsin guy. I pretty much only watch the Illini.

Fact that you pretty much only watch the Illini explains a lot. We have quite a few posters on here that only watch Iowa games and you can tell. Nothing wrong with that but doesn’t give a very broad perspective. Some people are “college basketball fans” but you’re not, you are an “Illinois basketball fan’ and it shows.

I have no problem with what you say. I purposely limit my time to watching only Illini games. That may be the only thing I watch all year on TV. I subscribe to youtube.tv just for Illini games and will cancel it in about a month and you won't see me around here at all. I'm also not a hoops expert but have watched enough games to trust my own judgement. I also used to run an Illini hoops site. I'm pretty familiar with the past 30 years of Illini hoops. I went to Illinois during the Flying Illini years (1986-1991) and am familiar with the aftermath of the Bruce Pearl scandal. I got over that when he finally apologized to Jimmy Colllins at a Final Four in New Orleans. It didn't mean a lot to JC, but I respect it. I've interviewed Deron Williams when he was just a pudgy-faced HS kid. This is actually the only board other than youtube that I am registered on. I don't like spending too much time online "debating," but it's addicting.

p.s. By the way, the true Illini experts on here are @Booty Maximus and @combes, both Illini legends who have been around longer than me and have way more knowledge than me. Also a lot nicer and more civil than me.

If Underwood continues to allow Ayo to play garbage minutes and stuffing the stat sheet in an attempt to bolster his claim for NPOY, then I won't shed a single tear if he ends up getting injured and missing the rest of the season. Hard to understand a B10 coach allowing that, that's not a team goal, it's just garbage.
No worries - it won't go unnoticed by the coaches and the players. The media, that's another story.

The outcome of the game was not in doubt - the game was OVER. Teams dribble out the last seconds for a reason and part of that is to avoid potential fights that can and have happened. For F sake even the NBA does it.

I hate Illinois probably more than most but calling a first team all-american player a "clown" and a "sham" just makes you look stupid.

Second, our fan base loathes Izzo and bully ball. There is no end of complaining about it on this forum. But you'll defend an MSU goon who intentionally -- yes, intentionally watch the video -- broke the nose and gave a concussion to an All-American? Again.... stupid. I used to have a lot of respect for Izzo but his schtick has crossed the line. One of the best players in college basketball might not play again this season. The league has to deal with this scumbag and his midget prick coach.

Anywhoo.... I just don't see why we can't recognize excellence and leave it at that.

i agree with you . i wish the offense would keep playing especially if there are little used subs playing .

So you want some little used sub to maybe throw up a three at the end of a game that they have comfortably in the bag? You think the other team would be OK with that?

The physicality in the Illinois/MSU game is exactly what is wrong with the way B1G basketball is officiated. Eventually we're going to wind up with another Ohio St./Minnesota situation. Warren has got to address this issue. It's one thing to call the B1G a physical league. It's another to see players assaulting each other.

dont care if they are ok with it , its not going to change the outcome of the game , let the subs play basketball .

It seemingly happens every year in the B10, officials swallow their whistles letting physical play take over unchecked, then the teams enter the post season tournaments and everything gets called and B10 teams struggle to adjust to the new officiating standard. I’m so tired of it.
