Anyone else see this?

Yes, but the jets, the elevation. You don't see the similarities?
I get the resemblance. Ronnie was super quick, hit inside, drive, and see the floor. I doubt if Dasonte has the same kind of Iowa career but he is the best looking super quick guy. Faster and quicker than Joey T but looks like a much better basketball player. A long way to go but he's looked pretty good out of the gate. One of highest ranked recruits Iowa landed in a long time and it might just payoff big time.

I see similarities in a lot of players. It has been very rare for Iowa to get super quick athletic guards that play under control so I can understand why people would try and draw such a comparison, but Ronnie was an elite All American who put a pretty average team on his shoulders and drove them to a Final Four before going down with an injury. Bowen looks like he could be a very good player but he has a long long ways to go to even be considered in the same breath as Ronnie Lester.

I didn't say he was Ronnie Lester. I said he reminds me of Lester.

This is the same thought process used by those who say Kris Murray should have played when he was a freshman. Players get better. Nobody said Bowen is as good as Ronnie Lester right now, or maybe ever will be. Bowen has a skill set that is reminiscent of Lester. Nothing more, nothing less. I hope he gets close to that level and then everyone can bitch that he should have started from day one.

Well, whoever he reminds you of, he’s got the potential to be a great one. He’s already very good!

No. Bowen should not be starting, and yes, Kris should have started last year. He was a sophomore however, so... we sort of agree.

He does remind me of the freshman Ronnie Lester. I think Lester probably shot it better but Dasonte seems to have similar attributes to his game. I think he will be a good one. He has to get bigger and stronger to go to war in the big ten. He is a hard worker so I bet he gets that done. Going against Tony, Ahron and Eldridge in practice won't hurt. Those three can all pick your pocket at any given time.

I got to watch Ronnie first hand at Iowa, and Bowen has some physical similarities. Both are incredibly quick and pretty similar in size. Both see the court and can get by their man pretty much whenever they want. Let's see how Bowen progresses this year. By the middle of his freshman year, Ronnie was already one of the best players and leaders on the team. He played with more control than what I have seen so far from Bowen, but that can come with time on the court. I do like what I see from Bowen, but Ronnie was one of the best PGs I have seen in the 50+ years I have been watching BB. The knee injury kept him from achieving that reputation IMO. That is a very high bar for Bowen to shoot for.

Ronnie controlled the tempo of the game even as a freshman against big ten competition. He was clutch and had as good of change of pace as any college player I’ve seen. Let’s give this kid some time. He has a long way to go to make big plays in big games. I will take Perkins running the show for now.

Bowen impressed me with his burst. He flashed big time potential, that I’m sure could be followed by some freshman mistakes. Lester is hard to live up to. When Magic Johnson called him the best player he played against, that’s an endorsement.

A knee injury? Not that high of a bar.
Not sure what you are disagreeing with? Ronnie was first team all Big Ten his Soph and Jr years, and probably also would have been his Sr year. Also, likely to be a first-team All American. I believe the injury kept Iowa from winning the Big Ten title and maybe the NCAA title his Sr year. Iowa and Louisville were the two best teams, and I won't be a total homer and say Iowa would have beaten them. Ronnie never recovered really from the knee injury. When Iowa went to the final four, Ronnie led them playing at maybe 70%. The other players on that team never seem to get credit from Iowa fans by how good they were as a team or individually. Fortunately, knee surgery has progressed light years in the four decades since. For Bowen to be as good as Ronnie Lester was at Iowa is a damn high bar. I hope he can come close.

Given the competition we've played, Bowen does seem to be playing at a slightly higher speed than anyone else on the floor. It's so early in the season, but he seems to be getting more comfortable by the game. There is some comparison to Ronnie after his first five games. Soon we'll see whether he can continue those similarities after playing an entire season. He has definitely looked impressive so far, but Ronnie sets the bar pretty darn high.
