So why is the Secretary of Treasury okay with Musk poking his fingers around in the Treasury?

Why is Mark Cuban part of three of the four responses? Is it just because he's the recognizable "not elon"? I don't think Cuban ever asked to take over or otherwise "audit" any governmental agencies.
Any auditing should be done by people trained and qualified to audit - not by people who just happen to have enough money to buy their way into the computer systems of the entities they don't agree with.
When we start w a new client, we have to negotiate a whole lot of IT security requirements/limitations/etc, so we and the client aren't at risk of accessing and potentially releasing sensitive client/consumer/patient data. We'd never just walk in, plug in our own server, and escort out anyone who disagreed with us. That would be... insane.

Yes,I would prefer it was happening with some form of bipartisan overview. Not that the people watching g get to say or do anything but simply to testify as to what was done.

Expect you're going to find plenty of dumb spending by gov if you comb through everything.
That said, I wish they'd release actual sources for this stuff. I have reason to doubt their truthfulness.

It's worse than giving your password away. I don't think people know how much damage can be done once they have your data. None of the DOGE have been subject to background checks. One is still in college. This isn't going to end well.
I have no problem with auditing treasury. With combing through our financials. Hell, share it all. (minus sensitive national security stuff)
The issue is with Musk and his folks, the methods their using, the access they should (or should) not have, and then the claims they're making.

I would just do a data dump and let the public sort through it. The optics aren't too good when you have Musk's team or whatever they are, digging through it and tweeting about crap.
