Welcome aboard Gabe. I'm 100% certain your son made the right choice coach. I am also an Iowa homer so there is that also! Love the recruiting momentum right now, but a couple more hammers would be just fine with me!

What a great kid and not just because he is coming to Iowa.
Gabe is going to be a lot of fun to watch, also great to see this SEM pipeline continue. Looking at the way the future lineups are shaping up takes the sting out of the Spencer news. Go Hawks

great pull! i first stumbled across him when he was in junior high on my instagram discover feed because his dad posts videos of him wrestling in practice (thank you algorithm). i remember thinking "this kid has some nice stuff. i wonder how good he really is." there was a video of him drilling with Lugo on the page. then probably over a year later i tuned into the Blair-Sem dual and watched him take out one of the Mastro brothers. realized halfway through the match "hey that's the kid from instagram!" been following him closely ever since.
Lugo was actually our first taste of Iowa. He was dragging Gabe. I mean wearing him out bad. But every time he would put it on Gabe, he would explain exactly what he was doing. When Gabe wanted to be tired, Lugo was having NOTHING of that crap. Gabe was enthralled with him. Lugo would not let him slack. Gabe’s been that way ever since.
Congrats to you and your family, coach. I thought Iowa was a major long shot to land Gabe, but am I happy to be wrong. Can’t wait to cheer on your son in CHA in the future. We got a great wrestler, and appears an even better family joining the hawks. Hoping the Wyoming Sem kids keep on following trend!
I love the little kick Lugo gives him as if to say we’re not done yet! That kinda work ethnic takes you to #1. Combine that with some serious talent and you have something special.

Excited to have your son onboard. I’m curious (and apology if you mentioned this somewhere else)… but what is your personal opinion (as a parent) of the Iowa wrestling program and what stood out to you during your interactions with the staff, facilities, fans, etc?

This is awesome and what wrestling is all about, Hard Work. Chop wood carry water, that is not a psu thing it’s a wrestling thing. “Get what you earn” now that’s a Hawkeye thing. Go Hawks!
As a parent? That’s SO easy. People see this version on TnT on screen and in the media, and from afar. Heck, my wife even commented on how crazy Terry was. Then he came to my home and we heard his HEART. Wrestling is all fine and dandy. Being the best in the world is great. But what we desired the most is our son being in a program where he could achieve those goals, but more importantly achieve them while becoming a better man, and the best version of himself. I know if my son were to ever step out of line off the mat, TnT have the integrity to hold him accountable out of love and make sure he learns the lessons a father would teach his son. For us, the coaches of whatever program Gabe went to would be co-parenting with us.

This is a monster get for the hawks and I can’t wait to see Arnold in black/gold. I think he’ll be a long term 174…unless he hits a growth spurt. I think Riggens ends up 184 as he seems to have a lot more room to fill out.
I honestly didn’t know much about Gabe until Coach started posting on here. I watched a few of his matches and quickly realized Gabe is an absolute talent and will help keep the Hawks at the top for years to come.
Like others, I have become a big fan of Gabe and family and would have rooted for him (minus Hawk matches) wherever he ended up. Sure glad he decided on the Hawks though!!!

I don't know. Riggins is long but would need a hell of a growth spurt to get to the 195 or so pounds it would take to be 184. CP said Gabe was only 16 as of 2-3 weeks ago and he has a baby face still. I could see Gabe growing a couple of inches and going 184 pretty easily. I like:
165 & 174- PK/Riggins, don't care which is where and Gabe at 184. I wouldn't doubt if Gabe walks around at close to 184 already not cutting.

How dare you doubt my 📲 game. I got 😡 skills! I must say, today I was at the scuffle and was very 😃. I got to hang out with our guys and rock my Hawkeye shirt for the first time. I must confess, I was a little 🤷🏽♂️ at the looks some folks gave me. A couple I just wanted to give the 🖕🏽 But that wouldn’t be 😇 of me. They’re just 💩 heads and hate us because they ain’t us.

It just feels good to be a part of a group of lunatics like myself. No rockstars here. Just a crazy dad who loves his crazy kid chasing dreams. Just think! Y’all got a whole mother season AFTER this one before he’ll even be on campus. However, don’t be surprised to see him hanging around quite a bit in Iowa this summer.
I like riggins and Arnold more then I like Barr and Haines!!
