Yes, the country is broke. I'm a CPA for 25+ years, just retired at 50 and also held securities licenses. I don't know any wealthy folks that deplete their assets with wasteful spending. They live off the return on those assets. When you deplete your assets you become leveraged and broke with a rockstar lifestyle. When tax revenues collected are servicing 30% of your budget for interest expense then you are not solvent. Also how many of those assets are liquid? You can't just easily sell them off.
I'm all for taxing more "that's part of the reason why I retired young tired of working free half the year" but they need to cut spending more than taxing. Way too much excessive waste. We are broke, you must not pay any taxes.
So how do you cut enough without touching the military?

Ah yes...the same people that want to fund SS, universal healthcare, free college tuition, also support these kind of bills. You can't have them both! It is past time for the US to correct the course we are on. Shut it down and get serious about passing legitimate bills for spending. This isn't even getting into the debt issue that isn't going away unless we start changing our spending.

No they don’t. Billionaires take out low interest loans using their untaxed assets as collateral. The loans aren’t taxed. And as long as the interest rate is lower than the return on their assets, they make money. When they die, the assets are stepped up and can be sold with no capital gains ever being taxed. The estate pays off any outstanding loans and - bingo - windfall for the heirs.
