Yes, it happens in the corporate world. There are reasons that people stay in civil service and it’s not just for having a regular steady job, and decent health insurance.
But, you want to cut waste? Why not take away healthcare for all government employees. Make them live like the rest of the country. Make it a level playing field.
But, destroying our national security is not the way

You can really see the people who don’t give a damn about others in these threads. 99.9% it’s Republicans. People are losing their jobs and they couldn’t care less. When jobs reports come out they won’t care about that either.
Institutional knowledge and continuity are really important too. That's why they want to get rid of the employees. Their tactic is making stuff worse then complain that something is worse so it needs to be removed.

Purges, really do tell. The only purges I’ve seen or known about is downsizing through not hiring retirees, then making the current employees maintain productivity to make the CEO’s compensation look warranted.

You said the special word "private" and the private company owner or stockholders of a company selling stock can make up their own operational rules as long as they do not break any Fed, St, and local laws. And you fail to mention that some companies get hammered and lose a lot of money getting sued for firing people in protected classes by age, etc. There are rules.

People are retired for disability, because they can’t do what they did when on active duty. They are still quite capable and qualified to work in government, especially DOD.
