Taylor McCabe has been a role player for much of her career at Iowa.

Interesting take. I doubt many would agree with you. Kylie played about as much as she should have last year. She is proving to be a good defender this season, and not dribbling into as many bad decisions, but she's a wildly inconsistent 3pt shooter that has difficulty making challenged layups. Her athleticism, evident in her guarding ability doesn't really translate to offense. It would be huge to get another year from her. She basically was screwed out of a year's worth of eligibility by the coaching staff last year who were chasing double doubles when we were up 40 points instead of rotating bench players in. Never really got quality minutes to where she could feel comfortable. Really should have gotten a lot of Gabbie/Molly's minutes last year. Kylie is the best athlete on the team since she's been here.
First off thats not what he said, and my post was about his statement. I have no delusions that its my decision. I know very well that its Jans decision, but since the OP asked I gave my thoughts. Kylie is a decent player when you consider her overall game, (just as AOG is), and I see no value in bringing back decent players with holes in their game for a 5th or 6th year as a "feel good story". Not when your hitting it in recruiting like never before as far as the overall talent pool we're recruiting in now. Someone else mentioned Kylie being a part of the current chemistry with the other older returning players as a benefit. That makes no sense either. ALL those players are leaving, (Lucy, AOG, AJE, Syd) along with Kylie. unless your going to bring them all back, and that makes even less sense. Its probably a moot point anyway. Supposedly Kylie said this was her last year, and she has a boyfriend who plays for another school somewhere else as well, so she's probably ready to move on with whatever her degree is in, since she's been at that for 5 years already. Are you sure he didn’t mean it’s silly to argue against “if” Jan decided to bring her back? I fall heavily on the side of that’s up to Jan?
Are you kidding? Chasing double/doubles? Like Kylie could have played CC22's position and we would have been the same team? Someone is heading down the road to dementia. Kylie played a LOT last year and was extremely inconsistent on offense, driving into traffic, getting swallowed up, and a high turnover rate. Those are facts.I'm not sure what you have against Clark, or why you have her confused with Angel Reese, or Juju. She NEVER played when we were up 40 points on teams in the 4th, and this team would not have sniffed a B1G titile or elite 8 without her.It would be huge to get another year from her. I checked last years stats. In 2023-24 Iowa had 14 comfortable wins. In those games Kylie averaged 19.2 minutes. Caitlin averaged 30 minutes in those game. In the NCAA tournament Feuerbach played 23 minutes against Holy Cross, 9 against West Virginia and 18 against Colorado. And, last 3 games - 5 minutes each.It would be huge to get another year from her. Exactly. He's making a non argument. Clark was never "stat padding" and Kylie played a lot when she wasn't in foul trouble. He's making an argument that she should have taking minutes from the best player of all time, another WNBA player, or Gabbie who was just as good a defender, and a much bigger threat in our offense. Total nonsense.I checked last years stats. In 2023-24 Iowa had 14 comfortable wins. In those games Kylie averaged 19.2 minutes. Caitlin averaged 30 minutes in those game. Totaling all games last year, Kylie played more than AOG and McCabe.
Didn't mention anything about McCabe or AOG. (But McCabe should have gotten in on those blowouts as well.) I felt she didn't get the quality game experience with our better players. Not talking about the last 4-5 minutes of all 2nd stringers.I checked last years stats. In 2023-24 Iowa had 14 comfortable wins. In those games Kylie averaged 19.2 minutes. Not saying she should have played instead of Clark, but I think she could play her spot or others with the rest of the 1's. Plus was able to guard the #1-3 position. I felt both Kylie and McCabe should have been rotated a lot more in with the 1's those big wins to help them gain confidence last year and be more comfortable starting out the following year (this season.) Not sure that Gabby or Molly had that much more they could improve on in their final season. Sort of peaked as compared to McCade and Kylie at that time. Are you kidding? Chasing double/doubles? We'll just agree to disagree. Kylie is what she is, after 5 years, and she's not going to be a different player in her 6th year in college. Molly Davis was brought in to be the back up point guard, period, and she played that role. Kylie may be able to guard 1-3 on defense, but she's not a point guard, (even still makes really poor decisions passing the ball), and not consistent enough shooter to be a solid 2 either. Up until this season (where she has improved marginally) McCabe was a one trick pony. Three point specialist, IF she was open. She could not create her own shot, score going to the hoop, or defend. Gabbie had already proved herself as a known quantity on defense. She was the poster child for the "three an D player". I can see some questioning roles this season given the close losses, way too many TO's, and lack of rythem on offense, but I can't see being critical of the last two seasons given the results. Maybe Lisa played Kate and Gabbie a few more minutes then needed to keep CC22 in her happy place, BUT given winning 65-66 games in the last two seasons, (most in school history) and playing for two titles, I'm not going to be the guy saying the coaches screwed up in handling the rotations in the past. Not saying she should have played instead of Clark, but I think she could play her spot or others with the rest of the 1's. see bold: I feel the same way this year with Heiden.Didn't mention anything about McCabe or AOG. (But McCabe should have gotten in on those blowouts as well.) I felt she didn't get the quality game experience with our better players. Not talking about the last 4-5 minutes of all 2nd stringers.
And not hard to look at. 😏I havent watched as much as the last two seasons up to this point but Kylie seems to be dribbling and driving better, not dribbling into traps and dead ends against the sideline. She can drive it to the basket when she sees the opening. And she is a very good defender and rebounder
Yes, and they will need to lean on her big time next year!see bold: I feel the same way this year with Heiden.
