Delta Air Lines swapped to pasta-only meals following a flight's diversion over a food contamination.

According to CNBC, Delta served pasta-only meals in the main cabin on dozens of international flights Wednesday after "spoiled" meals forced one of its flights to land in New York City. Per the outlet, citing a Delta spokesperson, the airline company served pasta-only meals on 75 international flights and served nearly the same number on Thursday.

"Out of an abundance of caution, Delta teams have proactively adjusted our in-flight meal service on a number of international flights," a Delta spokesperson told CBNC.

Per The Daily Mail, 277 people were believed to have been aboard Delta Flight 136. The plane took off from Detroit on its way to Amsterdam, but was diverted to JFK Airport after it was discovered that several in-flight meals were contaminated. Upon arriving at the airport in New York City, the passengers were met by medical crews who had been waiting, per the publication.

"Medical crews were on site to meet the aircraft and treat any affected passengers and crew members. Delta teams will immediately work to gather information into how this incident occurred," Delta said in a statement obtained by The Mail.

TheNew York Post reported that 70 individuals became ill after consuming the affected meals. Sources told The Post that the meals were contaminated with black mold.

Following the division, Delta issued an apology to those who were affected.

"This is not the service Delta is known for and we sincerely apologize to our customers for the inconvenience and delay in their travels," Delta wrote.

According to CNBC, the company has launched an investigation into what happened and told staff in an email that "immediate corrective actions have been implemented to avoid recurrence."

"As our last line of defense, please examine the dish before serving it and do not serve any food that may have a contaminant," Ash Dhokte, the lead of onboard service at Delta, wrote, per CNBC.
