Steve Alford and the Bruins went to the Sweet 16 in his first two seasons, but that won't happen this year. UCLA fell to 15-14 overall after a loss to Stanford over the weekend and sits in 10th place in the Pac-12 with a 6-10 mark. The win over Kentucky back in December seems like years ago."

Wow. They may not even finish with a winning record. If he doesn't win big next year he is toast. And it doesn't look like the Indiana job is opening anytime soon.
 
Not to stick up for the guy, but in the past four years, he's led a 5 seed to the NCAA, a 2 seed to the NCAA, and two UCLA teams to the Sweet 16.

Fran's 1 win in the NCAA tourney in the past 6 years is nice and all, but I think we would all take what Steve has done in a heart beat.

Take it up with these guys. I'd rather have a coach that does more with less than less with more. Fran's just getting started.

Ok... I get it. We're Hawk fans so we have to say great things about our coach. But, he's hardly "just getting started". Moreover, we'll be nowhere near as good next year.

I'm not longing for a return of Alford, but it's not a choice of Fran OR Alford either. All I'm saying is Fran is a bad year away from maybe finding himself on a warmer seat than most would like to admit. Two bad years in a row, and the seat will surely be hot.

The same could be said about any coach. We will fall back next year, but you are crazy if you think Fran is anywhere near the hot seat.

So dumb. We have improved every year under Fran so far. We are certainly slumping right now but I can't believe anyone would be calling for Fran's head after a few close losses in B10 season.

No one is calling for Fran's head now. But he is also the only coach in college basketball who starts 4 seniors, one of whom is an all american.

Next year could be very rough, while virtually every other team in the Big 10 keeps the majority of their starting lineups and has the benefit of much better recruiting classes. Fran is leaving the cupboards pretty bare for the future.

Did you read my post? Try again. I said if Iowa has a bad year in 2016/17 like probably will, and then follow it with another in 2017/18, Fran will be feeling heat. Is that still "so dumb" ? But yet you're probably enjoying the Alford bashing?
 
Being UCLA wouldn't be all bad bc then you would have at least one national championship and a post 1980 final four appearance!

I wouldn't worry. According to a lot of posters here, we have a bunch of outstanding players on the bench right now, but Fran is too stupid to play them. Next year he will have no choice and these great players will flat out kick ass. I'm comfortable with it.
 
Steve alfred has UCLA just where he has coached them..... down the toilet. I still don't like the guy he is a puke.
 
Fran has at least the next 3 years locked up for his job.

Guys just go to google and type in Iowa Basketball from 2007-2010. Iowa won a total of 15 Big Ten games in that span. YIKES!!!!

Fran struck gold coming to Iowa and there are not a lot of expectations here. Iowa fans want them to be competitive again and they are. The issue this year is just like 3 years ago. I remember when Iowa was in the NIT final and Fran was quoted as saying "we didn't think we would be this far" and they got into a BIG GAME and fell flat.

The following year they got off to a hot start and then fell flat and limped into the NCAA and lost.

Last year they started slow and then caught fire and got into the NCAA and WON a game.

This year they got fire early and then limped into the NCAA again.

I think most fans want consistency out of Iowa. I realize that winning on the road in the Big Ten is a challenge and I do not expect it very often. But Iowa should win at least 95% of their home games. I do not care, teams should not come into Carver and shoot lights out. Iowa should have a distinct advantage over the visiting team. But its not the case.

Most brainiacs posting here said this team would not be worth a hoot after losing what we lost last year. We will be just fine. At this point, the unknown is more promising than the known commodity of piss down their legs seniors.

Fran can appear to be a dick at times, but he is just a poser. Alferd is the real deal.
